Harry Carpenter's ten ten all-time heavyweights (greatest and best)

    Greatest

    1-Muhammad Ali
    2-Mike Tyson
    3-Jack Johnson
    4-Joe Louis
    5-Rocky Marciano
    6-Jack Dempsey
    7-George Foreman
    8-Joe Frazier
    9-Lennox Lewis
    10-Evander Holyfield

    Best

    1-Joe Louis
    2-Rocky Marciano
    3-Muhammad Ali
    4-George Foreman
    5-Joe Frazier
    6-Larry Holmes
    7-Mike Tyson
    8-Sonny Liston
    9-Jack Dempsey
    10-Floyd Patterson

"In the 1980s,Tyson was like a mixture of Liston,Dempsey and Patterson..thats why I have him in ahead of them. It must be pointed out that Holyfield and Lewis fought a much more static Tyson"

"Jack Johnson was the greatest defensive heavyweight only of his time,he was too static to be able to handle the heavyweights with more activity level that came after him"

I'd pick a 19-21 yr old Tyson over anybody on a 'Who beats Who' basis .. but its ****** putting Tyson over Holyfield and Lennox, he does not deserve to be rated ahead of Holyfield or Lennox in alltime lists ..

does it matter how much talent Tyson had??? Cause when he to fight big names he couldnt use it

Its all about longevity .. Jack Johnson had it, Jack Dempsey had it, Joe Louis had it, Rocky Marciano had it, Muhammad Ali had it, Larry Holmes had it, George Foreman won the title again 20 years later (and I'd say the likes of Frazier and Norton are much better names than the likes of Bonecrusher Smith and Tony Tucker), Lennox Lewis is a three time champion, Evander Holyfield is a four time champion ..

The heavyweights that did NOT have the longevity required for greatness include the likes of Max Schmeling, Jersey Joe Walcott, Floyd Patterson, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Mike Tyson, Rid**** Bowe .. that counts against you in alltime lists ..

But Lennox Lewis had no longevity you ****ing idiot, the most ammount of defences he ever made before either getting KTFO or quitting the sport, was four defences.
Tyson made nine defences in a row while he was still a kid (against much better opposition than Lewis).

Lennox Lewis was only ever dominant in the year 2000, for three fights, the guy is grossly over-rated!

Lennox was world champion in 1993,10 years later he was world champion and still had beaten everybody he stepped into the ring with. Thats longevity.
