    big difference.

vic *punches* up close and leaves himself enough space to do so.

hatton just bodily throws himself all over you, thus initiating grappling, then tries to beat you up with sneaky ****.

let go of the nuts, kid, it's been 4 years.

We're going to get inside. If we have to move, we move. If Victor goes inside, Floyd can't counter-punch on the inside. He can in the middle distance or the outside. Inside, that's our fight. He's got problems, because Victor hits hard with the upper-cut, with short hooks. That's our best chance. He says that he's not going to run, that he's going to stay in front of Victor. How can he stay in front of Victor and not get hurt? He's going to feel Victor's punches and he's going to have to run. He likes to run. He never stays in front of an opponent. If he shows his back, we're going to hit him on his back, because that's his fault. The ref should know that if he turns his back, the punches are still coming."

                Good plan or not?
I've said it a few times. I don't know why most fighters aim for his head when he shoulder rolls, crack him in the ribs and the kidney, it's the only punch your going to land. Being a natural right handed fighter, that might be a money punch for Ortiz.

                Still not enough though.

the jab is the most basic and important punch in boxing for a reason

it can be used for many purposes, to create distance and keep the opponent at bay or get closer and inside with some back up

walking in without punching is dangerous

I remember in Mikey Garcia's last fight he was fighting some guy who was like 5'10" or 5'11" and he had to use his jab to cut the distance. It worked for him because he was getting his jab off first and was able to walk him down while keeping that jab in his face.

Mike Tyson used to do this when he was still trained by Cus. Although he used a combination of head movement and jabbing.

i'm not saying inside fighters doesn't use jab all throughout the fight but when it's time to get inside you don't stretch out your arms for a jab to close the gap. what you saw is a fighter trying to jab his opponent who is trying to get inside...they may end up fighting inside but it's not the jabber who initiated the inside fighting, it's his opponent.
