Ortiz isn't equipped with the skills to get inside without getting hit often, and he isn't a better inside fighter than Mayweather. Not a good plan, to take what Ortiz is worst at and make that your gameplan.

He's got problems, because Victor hits hard with the upper-cut, with short hooks. That's our best chance. He says that he's not going to run, that he's going to stay in front of Victor. How can he stay in front of Victor and not get hurt? He's going to feel Victor's punches and he's going to have to run. He likes to run. He never stays in front of an opponent. If he shows his back, we're going to hit him on his back, because that's his fault. The ref should know that if he turns his back, the punches are still coming."

Danny Garcia said his fighter will not make the mistake of showing Floyd Mayweather 'too much respect' in Las Vegas

      Good plan or not?
what else is ortiz gonna do? try and box wifebeater?

Is it a great gameplan? No, but what kind of great gameplan can you have for a guy who loves to square up and doesn't have a jab?

I think other equally good gameplans are all our agression to start with high risk of getting KO'd in the later rounds..

And I think that's pretty much it. Maybe attempt to stick a jab and outwork mayweather while rotating away from his right cross? And periodically trapping him on the ropes?

Not many gameplans are going to be good against Mayweather when your fighter is somewhat limited.

like what the other poster said...jab creates distance so i don't know how could that help

now if you use it as a decoy to confuse your opponent then maybe

Very true, but if he boxed I think he could pick his spots to explode with combinations. He's a better boxer than he is a pressure fighter. Ortiz will take a beating trying to force his way inside, unless he's developed an unknown inside game lately.

Ortiz still has to jab with floyd, and when he throws that left he has to aim it as his midsection aswell as his head. Floyd like to bend away from the punch much like Ali used to do, but fighters forget to aim for his midsection.

Floyds inside game is good, when he wants to he can fight on the inside. But, he's usally the bigger fighter. He's going to be in there with someone his own size, both physiclly and mentally. I also think because of ortiz height floyd is going to get the worst of it when they meet in the inside. Much of floyds success in the inside usally comes from him being the stronger and or taller fighter, this wont be the case with ortiz.

I was rewatching Ortiz/Berto last night and I noticed a really effective punch for Ortiz, a punch he might not have one that fight without was his hooking uppercut thrown with his right hand. It seemed like he would attack the head, and when his opponent ducked down or slouched to avoid punishment, he'd launch the uppercut.

How would that work against an orthodox shell defense? Would that even be able to land or would it actually be in great position to land. I'm trying to imagine how those two factors would engage one another and I'm thinking it will either completely miss or be glancing.. I feel like that was a really big part of his inside attack..

I think Ortiz will try to make this a dirty and messy fight, grinding out punches and pushing Floyd back to the ropes or cornering him like Castillo did. Will it work? Probably not, but it's the best bet to try and hit anything and sway the judges.

The only problem is that turtle looking ***.got Cortez is gonna spoil the fun.

It will be interesting if Ortiz is not permitted to crowd Mayweather but Mayweather is permitted to post with his forearm/elbow. I dont' think Mayweather is a very dirty fighter, but I do think Cortez is a bad referee. I really hope his actions won't influence the fight.
