Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2 on all 3 scorecards at the time of the controversial doctor stoppage. Lewis barely survived the 2nd round, he was badly hurt, holding on for dear life, wobbling everywhere and staggering around the ring like a drunk. Lewis was badly hurt several times in the fight and was getting outboxed, outworked, outmuscled and outlanded by Vitali.
punches landed
Vitali 156
Lewis 102
Lewis was exhausted, worn down and hurt from the accumulation of punches and was ready to get KTFO again, he collapsed onto his stool at the end of the 6th round, Vitali was clearly the fresher of the two, he was a man on a mission and would've KO'd Lewis for sure if the fight had continued.
After the fight, Vitali intimidated the shit out of Lewis and made him look like a bitch.
All the fans at Staples Center cheered for Vitali and booed Lewis after the fight.
Lewis promised Vitali a rematch.
Vitali destroyed Kirk Johnson in 2 rounds and called out Lewis again in the post fight interview. The scared Lewis retired shortly after that fight.
Lewis turned down 30 million dollars for a rematch and retired like a coward because he knew he would get destroyed by Vitali.
Vitali dominated Lewis and scared his bitch ass into retirement.
George Foreman: "Vitali was winning the fight. Lewis got lucky. There has to be a rematch!"
Jim Lampley: "A lucky escape for Lewis who was clearly losing the fight"
Even Emanuel Steward was upset and pissed off at Lewis for blatantly ducking a Vitali rematch.
And if Ray Leonard was there, Pac and Floyd wouldn't be the face of boxing.
Pointless comments by Floyd. Everyone besides a handful of ******s realize Lennox is greater than the klitschkos. But at the same time, Lennox is one of the best heavyweights of all time.
I'd bet on Vitali every fight at even odds if he fought THAT version of Lennox.
A prime lennox, thats entirely different.
When it comes to the tiring debate of Lennox vs Vitali, what did happen and what could have happened i just think both sides are being ****** for no reason.
1) Lennox won. It wasn't luck, and theres no way of knowing if Vitali could have kept it up had he not been cut.
2) A massive cut of that proportion is a high variance outcome. Theres quite a few random factors involved. It is not as simple as "Lennox threw the punch, therefore it was intended".
Lennox won.
It was a far removed from prime lennox (though obv not shot).
Vitali showed he could be competitive with THAT version of lennox and no one in their right mind can say Vitali wouldn't have a great shot to beat THAT lennox in a rematch.
Great post Harry. The only thing that I would add, would be.....
" It wasn't luck, and theres no way of knowing if Vitali could have kept it up had he not been cut "..... just as there is no way of knowing whether Lewis would have been as effective in the later rounds either.
Haha, about the same level? Ok, maybe a fat past prime Lewis vs a younger version of the monster we call Vitali might be at the same level but a Prime Lewis is leaps and bounds ahead of any version of Vitali.
The only 'FACTS' anyone needs are Lewis TKO rd6 over Vitali, no luck involved. Its not as if Vitali slipped and smashed his face to pieces on his stool on the way back to his corner is it. His face was destroyed by Lennox Lewis punching him lots and lots and lots.
Lewis was only a few pounds over the weight he fought Tyson at, also Lewis was suppose to be around his prime then. Vitali wasn't in his prime either it was a big step up for him he wasn't as experienced then. You didn't say the rest of the facts that Vitali was ahead on the score cards, was the closest to knocking Lewis out and had landed more punches. Ok the fight was stopped on cuts, but there should have been a rematch don't deny it.

Lewis was still close to his prime at least and Vitali wasn't in his prime, it was a great fight and there should have been a rematch. Wladimir may end up being the greater heavyweight than Lewis he has the time and talent to do it.

Lewis is scared to death of Vitali.
yep close thread this guy schooled all of you with the truth.
Fact was lewis won on a technicality, but was getting schooled.
In fact vitali with one eyes was still destroying lewis tbh.
Lewis retired after being offered the biggest payday of his career, and as pointed out, vitali barely even trianed for this style of fight.
Lennox was still in great shape, was relatively young (37) and said BEFORE the fight that hje intended on fighting for a while longer.
Then he gets patted up by Vitali and all of the sudden he was undertrained, old, etc.
No sir, when you turn down 20+ million for a HBO PPV rematch, that just means you are scared and saw something in the other guy you didn't want to deal with again.
That's exactly what happened and HBO knows it too.
Agree - He got lucky with that stoppage and knew it.
Could someone explain me why Lennox - Vitali was ruled as TKO? Why not RTD? Usually, as i have known, fight is ruled as RTD when it is stopped by the referee/doctor due to cuts or injury and the wounded fighter is still in his mind and willing to carry on. I'm just curious..
The Klitschko fanboys will make you believe that if a fighter was behind on the scorecards and came back to win the fight by a stoppage (through a punch), he didn't actually win
