good fight. gamboa was basically winning every round, he would've gotten a clear decision or late stoppage if it would have continued. ponce was there to fight though, sucks the headbutt happened.

Very Tru & Ponce De Leon didn't quit(like some are speculating here) the Dr. was the one that came to his OWN conclusion & told the ref the fight couldn't continue & Ponce De Leon never said or gestured anything to the Dr. for him to make that decision like Judah(against Clottey), Camacho jr(against Leija), Leija(against Ward) or Guerrero(against Jordan) & J.C Chavez Sr did against Frankie Randall in their 2nd fight...

Yeah, I just rewatched it on youtube. Although de leon appears frustrated, neither the ref nor doctor appear to consult with him before arriving at their decision to stop the fight. Near the end of the exchange, de leon simply nodded toward his cornerman in acknowledgement as he was told what was going on, but by that point, the ref was already walking away as he prepared to announce the decision. He may not have pleaded with the officials for the fight to be allowed to continue, but he also didn't plea for it to be stopped like other guys have suggested. It was still a disappointing end though.

He refused to fight? He just blinked and complained about a headbutt and the referee called the doctor to look at the cut. There was nothing in his behavior that said "I don't wanna continue".

Im disapointed about how the fight ended and the wohle fight. Tonight Gamboa didnt look as sensational as expected. Maybe he has problems with southpaws i dont know. I expected a much better fight.

this is coming from someone who isn't a fan of either gamboa, ponce or lopez. styles make fights. whatever everybody else says, lopez beats gamboa. ponce could have had the chance if he didn't quit. i believe donaire would destroy all 3 of them.

So when was he getting beat up? It was a competevive fight. Gamboa was winning most rounds but wasnt like he was running thur de leon who has imoroved vastly. Gamboa is the best at feather weight and de leon made him look regular.
