According to promoter Frank Warren, WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (39-2, 9KOs) is going to move up to the lightweight division. Burns was slated to face mandatory challenger Adrien Broner (21-0, 17KOs) on November 26th in Cincinnati. But, earlier this week the champion's manager, Alex Morrison, advised his boxer to turn the fight down. Morrison disclosed that his fighter is struggling to make the division limit of 130-pounds.

Okay color me cynical, but Ricky Burns has given interviews saying how he make the weight pretty easy, so I think they are avoiding a dangerous mandatory...

Basically Burns maintains the weakest world title reign in British history by fighting farmers and hobos. As soon as a dangerous mandatory comes up in Broner; Frank Warren pulls him out of there and creates a "vacant interim" belt who Burns can beat another bum for, and sell it as Burns being a "two weight world champion". Shocking.

wow, what a cowardly move. . . go ahead and kiss any future chance at an HBO appearance goodbye. . . Burns also seemed rather anxious to get Mzonke Fana in the ring, a much more winnable fight on paper. I hope he gets punished at lightweight.

Didnt ever think they'd let Burns put his title on the line against Boner. Dissapointed that Burns is going along with it. He'll never be a champion again.
