It's too bad. I guess those are the cards Gamboa's been dealt. I don't care about Chris John anymore; he's made himself irrelevant, as far as I'm concerned. But Mikey Garcia is someone I'd like to see Yuri fight. That kid's got the goods, and I don't think he's being protected from Gamboa.

I'm not worried at all about Yuri's prospects at 130. As you said, it's more his natural fighting weight anyway. Although there's going to be more money at 135, it's also going to be more dangerous. But that's what this sport is all about anyhow, eh?

Actually, I do blame Oner for making (yet again) ludicrous comments, however understandable they may be. I know everyone is looking for the human lottery ticket that is Manny Pacquiao, but it doesn't make his comments any less silly.

He is, his own brother admitted it. He said they would like to fight Gamboa eventually but that Mikey is not ready yet.

And forget about his brother, just use common sense. Mikey is also with Top Rank. Mikey is Mexican --> Mikey is cash cow. I hope you've been around boxing enough to understand how the old Bob does his business... he will NEVER put Mikey in front of Gamboa unless they've cleaned everyone else and that would be at 135lb in a few years. He tried to do the same with Lopez, which is Boricua and also a cash cow.

I really like Mikey, I'd like that fight even more than the Donaire fight, but I know how it is and I know it won't happen. Forget about what Arum said... Remember the first date Arum CONFIRMED for Gamboa-Juanma was for the fight to happen 2 years ago! Then the excuses came and the date got pushed like 4 times until Juanma lost.

I don't doubt your words about Arum. But Robert Garcia saying his brother isn't ready is not the kind of protection we're talking about. I've seen the video and heard what Robert had to say. He knows Gamboa's a monster. It would be foolish and heartless to throw your own brother in with a beast like Yuri at this stage in young Mikey's career. That being said, I do believe they'll be willing to pit Garcia versus Gamboa when Mikey's ready. Unfortunately, Yuri is already moving on.

Anybody with speed is a threat to Pac. That's why he never fights guys with speed like Joan Guzman, Raheem or Sergio Martinez and instead fights guys who are over the hill and drained. He's unlike Juan M Marquez who fought Mayweather and Pac and Chavez who fought Taylor and Whitaker, Barrera who fought Jones and Mckinney, Rafa Marquez who fought Tim Austin, etc, etc. Sigh.......everybody wants to say they're better than Mexicans but they don't want to do what Mexicans do.

You've got to fight and beat fighters of all styles to be great not just the ones who best suit your style.
