Man, I almost missed this BS. The story was posted early this morning and the last comment before mine was early as well.

This is Yuri's last fight at 126? I understand and agree that Gamboa needs to move up soon, but I don't like it. As far as I'm concerned, Yuri has unfinished business at FW. I'd like to see a fight with Mikey Garcia and, if he gets past Salido, a long overdue meeting with JuanMa Lopez. What about that "super-fight" with Nonito Donaire? Geez....

There's only one name of any consequence at 130 in my view: Adrien Broner. After that it's straight to 135, where the competition is very stiff. It remains to be seen how well Gamboa handles the extra weight, and how good he looks against bigger men. For now, I shudder to think of a fight between Yuri and Brandon Rios.

As for the Pacquiao comments...gimme a break.

Gamboa is just being smart... he wants those names badly, Garcia and John, but they won't give em to him because Gamboa is too dangerous. He's tired of waiting and it's easy to understand, he's been in 126 forever now waiting for the big fights and they won't give them to him. He's more of a natural 130lb fighter anyway, that's his real fight weight. He went down to 126 in the first place because all the quality names were there and he wanted to build an early legacy, but he's been waiting for that chance for a few years now and he already lost his nemesis and the other ones are hiding. He already beat 2 champs in the division and the other ones seem comfortable where they are. Donaire is a dream match, but he's still 2 divisions below and Gamboa can't keep fighting bums in a division where he's not feeling well waiting for him to come up in 2 years. So at the end, Gamboa got ***ed badly by Top Rank and he's paying for it, but the only thing he can do right now is go up and try to beat some other champs (weak or not) in higher divisions. I agree with you he shouldn't spend much time in 130 since there's nothing happening there. Big money in 135 tho.

For the Pacman comment, can you blame Oner for saying that? lol Pacman and Mayweather are every promoter dream. However, it's true that Gamboa doesn't think highly of Pacman and he really believes that he would beat him if they meet in some catchweight. He's been saying that for a few years now. The only other fighter he really considers extremely dangerous is Mayweather.

            Just looking at Gamboa's frame I question how good he'll be at 135, I can't imagine 147.

It's too bad. I guess those are the cards Gamboa's been dealt. I don't care about Chris John anymore; he's made himself irrelevant, as far as I'm concerned. But Mikey Garcia is someone I'd like to see Yuri fight. That kid's got the goods, and I don't think he's being protected from Gamboa.

I'm not worried at all about Yuri's prospects at 130. As you said, it's more his natural fighting weight anyway. Although there's going to be more money at 135, it's also going to be more dangerous. But that's what this sport is all about anyhow, eh?

Actually, I do blame Oner for making (yet again) ludicrous comments, however understandable they may be. I know everyone is looking for the human lottery ticket that is Manny Pacquiao, but it doesn't make his comments any less silly.

147 is a magnet for talent. Fighters know their paychecks double just by being in that weight class because the general public has a certain perception of the welterweight division that helps it draw attention.

I can see Gamboa making a late run at WW if he keeps doin well.
