Here is your answer......
Larry Holmes holds the distinction today (2005) of being the longest-reigning World Heavyweight Champion in boxing history (1978-1985), second only to Joe Louis. Larry defended his title twenty consecutive times (all-in-all, fighting a total of 26 title bouts throughout his career). He held the record for 48 straight wins, next to boxing legend Rocky Marciano.
Holmes fought a 3-round exhibition with Ron McCarthy at the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham, AL (2004-1-16)

Thanks, but I wasnt looking for the longest reign, the best record. Maybe I should have been more specific. I saw someone's post up higher that it is Chavez' record of 32-4. Thanks for everyone's help.Comment
