That "headbutt" caused swelling under the eye, there was no bleeding after the ref separated them, then another upper landed, then Lampley points out Berto has swelling and Zaveck has a cut as Berto lands two more big shots which really opened, Zaveck had a similar smaller cut under his left eye brow from punches. Watching it live i couldnt believe a punch did that to his face in a span of 2 min. especially when nothing hard was really landing for berto

I did not think they were headbutts when watching live.

I have seen some replays and they are at best, inconclusive.

Zaveck did not say anything about headbutts after the fight.

IMO, the cuts were caused by punches.

first off, no, im not here to 'discredit' berto or 'make excuses', get that out of your head.

its just that those cuts were really nasty, and seemed to come almost out of nowhere. You usually see that kind of facial damage caused so quickly because of a clash of heads.


I wouldve really liked to see the fight continue, but obviously it couldnt have in zavecs condition. Poor guy was so upset that the fight had to be stopped, and honestly i dont blame him. I thought the fight was starting to turn his way, and its definitely not like he was being outclassed, he was landing some flush shots on berto from the getgo.

Too bad it was such a nasty cut. Headbutt or not, it could have been a great fight. Looking at the post fight stats, Zavec outlanded Berto both in power punches and total punches. Berto was definitely more effective, but Zavec stood his ground and fought back. Since Zavec would step his activity up in the 2nd half of the fight, it would have been a slugfest.

Because Zaveck has class. and he said on Slovenian TV that it was a HEADBUTT

Zaveck had a Cut on his EYEBROW that was from a punch, that cut was contained, his eye was FINE, until, Berto put his head down and RUSHED into Zaveck, as seen here. I never seen a "punch" do that amount of damage in so little time, especially as Berto was dead tired.

As soon as Berto headbutts him twice (in the nose and in the eye) Zaveck cringes in PAIN.

Which ones? Ordinarily HBO would find the punch that did the damage but the only thing they showed looked su****iously like a headbutt.

I thought it was odd that HBO didn't even consider the fact that it might have been a headbutt. Maybe it was cos usually the other fighter alerts people to the fact that he was butted, but still.....
