Berto-Zavec, cuts caused by headbutts?

are there any gifs of the uppercut by any chance? I remember HBO showing the replay but nothing looked that super flush that it would have caused such a bad cut.


It was a good fight last night, Id like to see a rematch personally.

I think it was the forth round that Berto landed a left cross that backed Zavec up. Could of been the final round, I don't recall which round for sure that it happened. Uppercuts I'm not sure but that's Bertos punch and many were landed on the inside/inside the clinch.

Watch the fight AGAIN, Zaveck's eyes were fine, he had a cut that was caused by a punch on his EYEBROW, corner managed it. When he walks out in Round #5 his eyes were fine and NO swelling, just blood. Then after berto headbutts him it starts to swell and you can see him cringe in pain.

I have NEVER seen a punch do that, Berto wasnt landing hard punches in that round either, he was just hugging and rubbing his head into Zaveck since Berto was GASSED in Round #5. So tell me which punch? Look at the fight again, he had nothing under his eyes walking out of round 5, just a cut on his EYEBROW not UNDER HIS EYE

hmm, guess Ill check it out again when the fight is available on youtube. its possible that Berto opened the cuts with punches...he is a very explosive fighter...but I just didnt see too many flush shots that landed around his eye area. Could have missed it though.

Either way it doesn't look intentional. Berto came in hard, I actually laugh at the gif because he does look like a ram or something but he was coming in for the clinch a lot. It looks like Zavec was ready to throw an uppercut/cross himself and berto was trying to come in to prevent it but since Zavec head was down to throw a cut the Berto head collided with the cheek. It happens, it's boxing.

The more I view it the more I think that the swelling was caused by the headbutt. I don't think that butt caused the damage to the cut though. He was already cut and the force of the butt to the cheek/nose really slowed the impact of it(you can see bertos head bounce up and slightly hit the brow area).

Berto was running at Zavec like a raging bull lol. The second headbutt was definitely mean. It hit the nose and then slid on to Zavec's eye. That was probably the butt that made Zavec look like someone spilled a cup of Tomato juice on his face.

What worries me the most is that REF in the ring. The dude is acting like nothing happened. Did they put in another journeyman to REF that fight? Any REF experts here?

For me this is an undecided fight, and I'd definitely bet points on Zavec the next time they fight. I know Berto grabbed the belt and ran for the hills, but Zavec could be pursuing him for a while, if he finds a promoter in the US for his last 1-2 years. Zavec looked damn good and I can think of quite some US welters he could beat right now.

^he hits his nose then the followup to the eye, dont forget sometimes when a nose is broken the eye's start to swell. (If you ever broke your nose you will notice sometimes you get 2 black eyes then next day)

I never seen a punch cause an eye to swell like that, if you download the fight and look at the end, you will see Zaveck had a CUT on his eyebrow that came from a punch. That swelling came from the headbutt and the constant rubbing of Berto's head in that spot. Look at it closely, Zaveck cringes when Berto headbutts him.

Name me a fight where a punch caused the eye to swell shut within 30 seconds, a punch causes a CUT which bleeds and expands (like the one on his eyebrow, which was Bleeding but not swelling)

Gonzalez-Niida comes to mind. Though it didn't close as quickly, and Gonzalez had been landing cleaner than Berto. It took a little over a minute to close and didn't seem as bad.

Honestly, I didn't even think that headbutts were involved when I was watching live but those GIFs say otherwise.

Did anybody else think that Berto's defense was horrible? I don't know the numbers but it looked to me like Zaveck threw much less punches but landed just about as many.

first thing.......zavec was cut on his left eye from a punch. the swelling on his right eye came from the upper cuts & combos that berto landed. i would argue that anyone that claims that bertos shots were blocked or didn't land need to seek mental attention. how can berto land enough to SPLATTER zavecs left eye but not land enough to swell up zavecs right eye? if berto wasn't landing how did he cut zavecs left eye from a PUNCH to begin with?
