Mickey Garcia beats this guy in a very good fight IMO. Russel has good speed and throws nice and crisp punches, but they have no power on them, and I find it hard people like Gamboa and Lopez would be effected by those pitty patties.

Overrated, his defense is not all that, that guy was slow as hell and he still was getting hit, and his power is terrible.

Not jumping on the hype-train, all I see is very fast hands with no power.

Throws nice combinations, very very fast hands but he lacks power, his defence is quite poor, slow feet, chins untested, not fought anybody worth noting.

I think people are just blinded by the kids handspeed tbh, which is impressive but I don't see no major star quality. Defence is scatty, chins up in the air, K.O waiting to happen.

Garcia, Gamboa, John, Lopez, Ponce, Cabellero all brutalise him. Smash him to pieces!

Nicholas Walters & Escobedo would most likely beast him.

Villanueva needs a decent trainer, he has massive power but he is so damn raw, probably a better prospect tbf

Not trashing the kid but I don't see the hype. Might have fast hands but his feet aren't great at all & he has a tiny reach. I see no signs of improvement either.

          You could've fooled me! lmao

Anyway...I agree that it's way too early to jump on the "Russell Express". Gary's not ready for the big-time.

Mark my words, "A fairly quick, durable pressure fighter with mid to high power in his punches stops Gary Russel Jr."

I wish the guy well but that's what I see as his down fall.

based on what? a win over a slow, flat-footed stand right in front always moving straight backwards took the fight on a week notice fighter who lost 3 of his last 5

this was nothing more than a mere FNF type affair 8 rounds?

he has very good handspeed and throws crisp combos displayed fair defense but as they stated has hand problems which showed in his lack of power does stay in the pocket with regularity good or bad we'll see, what happens when he deals with someone who will come to win and until this occurs inappropriate to claim this

i've said this in other threads concerning russell, i'd love to see him fight javier fortuna. both guys are young, talented, and undefeated. fortuna also packs a punch, something that can benefit russell's career, and make it a 10 rounder. a loss to either guy wouldn't be too crucial to their careers either cause they're both young and upcoming. seriously, i can't think of a better matchup.
