MMA fighters have a lot of varied skills, they usually look to be in fantastic shape and they obviously work very hard and put on a show that entertains millions of people.
1 on 1 combat sport.... Isn't it obvious? The only other professional 1 on 1 combat sport (r there any team combat sports?) that is successful enough to compare to boxing. That K-1 kickboxing was big in Japan, and maybe a few other countries, but most people in the US hardly knew about it... They did have a professional grappling league somewhere about decade or 2 ago, but obviously nobody watched that shyt (there's a reason "PRO WRESTLING is fake)
In the end, its just the marketing. They throw in ur face that "boxing is 1 dimensional" and that this is "true fighting"... And as we all know, generations get dumber and dumber and everything is about name brand... So when they hear "Ultimate Fighting", they think they're watching extreme ultimate action combat... But in reality they're watching 2 guys dry hump each other on the ground...
Now obviously (between boxing and MMA) if u wanted to learn 1, just for the sake of learning a martial just for self defense, obviously u pick MMA... The reality is, it is the superior martial art. But as far as WATCHING goes... boxing is far more action packed, there's far more "strategic" skill being used, and as well as an action sport, its also much more of a gentleman's sport, becuz like soccer, u r limited, and u have to make skill adjustments based on ur limitations.

mma is nowhere near as popular as it was a few years ago. i never see tapout shirts anymore, but used to see that stuff all the time when i would go out. i dont even overhear people talking about it on the subway or waiting for the bus etc. only place i hear anything about mma these days is on boxing websites.
I agree, the last 5 UFC PPV's including their P4P #1 fighter only drew 300k ppv buys giver or take a few k.
It seems as if they have their loyal fan base, but the the fad of it being cool has lost appeal.. I get the feeling it just doesn't have that factor involved anymore.. A year ago everyone talked it up, now I hear more people shitting on it.

MMA has gone quiet recently without its most high profile fighter ( Brock on the shelf ) and its greatest fighter ever ( Fedor) being washed up and losing every fight. Silva is still dominating but he was never a crowd pleaser.
MMA and boxing both need to learnb a lesson to strike whilst the iron is hot. Brock vs Fedor would have been massive a while back but both have been knocked out since. Floyd and Pac could potentially lose their next fights ( though and serioulsy doubt it ) and then what would hapen to all that revenue that would have been generated because it wouldnt go towards Marquez vs Ortiz.

MMA isn't at Martial Art, it's called Mixed Martial Arts because multiple disciplines can be used.
