Berto can be a champion again if he stays focused. I don't feel like he uses his gifts in the ring the proper way. He wants to be explosive all the time. But sometimes, when you have that type of speed and power, you should take your time and break your opponent down. He should use his jab way more often and **** the body more. He needs to use his foot speed more effectively. He doesn't use the ring like some great fighters of the past with the same abilities. His defense is so so as well. I think he needs a new trainer. That's not putting down the one he has now, but just give him someone to teach him a new style that's more effective for his talents. -

that's a good comparison - berto could probably be more effective with his physical attributes if he adopted more of an "ambush style" like pascal utilizes. it takes a lot of stamina to use that style for 12 rounds because you gotta keep your wheels-a-moving - and use every inch of the ring. unfortunately, a skilled technical with a ring IQ through the roof like Hopkins, will figure it out after 3-5 rounds and shut it down with the quicknessComment

Berto finally stepped in against a real guy and took a beating -- did he think that the entire division consisted of B level fighters who were put on this earth to make him look good in the ring and feed his ego? -- get real, BertoComment

This should be a lesson to all the young guys that are trying to coast through their boxing careers fighting lesser guys to keep winning instead of fighting the best and becoming better and stronger. Bottomline is that Andre Berto was lunching. I remember him talking about how he was going to make Ortiz quit again and that he was going to basically manhandle Vic but once he got beat, all of a sudden "he wasn't there that night". Same thing happened to Lopez, Kirkland and a bunch of others this year that just tried to look good against tune ups. Boxing has turn to something else. I don't remember a time in boxing where the best guys had to beg the best guys to fight. Hopefully this experience has taught Berto to stop trying to coast.Comment
