Yuriorkis Gamboa has been stripped of more world titles in the last year than most boxers would earn in their entire careers.

I guess Wlad doesn't throw all the ABC belts in the garbage because he wants to hold them all eventually, but as soon as Vitali retires and he wins the WBC title, he should throw all 4 belts into the garbage and keep the RING belt only.

You already do dude, just look for the lineal champions in each division. The lineal champ, is THE man in the division. It isn't a bout belts and politics, it's only about the best fighting the best.

If a division doesn't have a lineal champion, then for what ever reason the best fighters aren't fighters each other.

The following divisions don't have lineal champions, so no one fighter should be able to say that they are outright the best in the division:
          Cruiserweight
          Super middleweight
          Junior middleweight
          Junior welterweight
          Junior Lightweight
          Featherweight
          Junior Featherweight
          Bantamweight
          Junior Bantamweight

It isn't a coincidence that in each of these divisions there is more than one fighter claiming they are the best in the division.

Welterweight and Heavyweight are the only divisions whereby an arguement could be made that the lineal champion are at least equals with the number one challenger. We all know Wlad and Vit won't fight (justifiably), and we all know Floyd and Manny should (a disgrace if they don't).

So I guess my point is, a lineal champion (who earns the right to be called by that name) will give a far clearer understanding of a singular "Champion" than a world champion, who gives up fees in order to be ranked, fight for and "own" a belt.

It isn't perfect, but it is a damn sight better than the alphabet soup nonsense.

Also, as I've just noiticed, only two of the original eight divisions, are without a lineal champ. That is no coincidence either.

with all these bogus divisions and belts flying around, it is almost impossible to determine who is the 'linear' champion -- when even 8 round fights are commonly for some BS belt these days, haven't we had enough of this?

There is way too many Weight-classes and way too many belts.

All the lower weight classes are dead, do we really need a 108/112 +4lb weight class diffirence up to 140? Its a freaking joke, no man should weight 108 or 112, all these dudes are just cherry picking a easy division, minimumweight should be atleast 118 or 122. If you want to be a boxer then man up and gain some muscle.

I would like to see around 6-7 Weightclasses and we need to do something about the LHW and CW division, somehow combine the 2 and make the weight diff in the middle, any good CW is moving to HW anyways and any good LHW is cutting down to SMW, leaving 2 dead divisions, add that with the dead 108/112+ divisions and you have half the divisions in Boxing being dead with scrubs fighting in them to collect fake belts.

and WBA is a complete joke.

Wlad beat Chagaev in 2009 when Chagaev was WBA Champ, WBA somehow didnt give Wlad the belt but instead chose to strip Chagaev and put the belt in the hands of 2 Sauderland fighters in Haye and Valuev (who Chagaev already beat). So David Haye wins the paper WBA belt and uses it to negotiate with Wlad saying oh you dont have the WBA belt (Wlad shouldve had it in 2009). So Wlad beats Haye and should have the WBA belt right? Bzzzzt Wrong, Wlad becomes the first "Super" WBA Champ and the belt goes to yet another Sauderland fighter in Povetkin.

So thats 2 times Wlad shouldve been WBA Champion but isnt. What happens if Povetkin beats Wlad does he become both the Regular and Super HW champ? What if Wlad beats Povetkin? I bet he wont get the regular belt, they will just strip it off Povetkin and put it in hands of yet another Sauderland bum.

Wba is a complete joke, they have all these "Super" champions but the only person in Boxing who can even call himself the real Super champ of any weightclass is Wlad since ******* and ***** have no idea what weight-classes are or which ones they want to fight in, so they should both get Catchweight Titles since they never stick to one weightclass.

WBA, I thought WBC was corrupt with the 3 headed snake in Don King, Saulman and Carlos Slim but WBA is on another level.

We need more articles like this one. The WBA is not a major title anymore. Hell the WBC shouldn't be either, and in consequence neither should the IBF and WBO who were just riding the WBA/WBC coattails.

These sanctioning org belts are all paper titles/minor belts in the grand scheme of things.

The Ring champion is the real champion now.

I wish the boxing media would stop acknowledging these corrupt and zero-credibilty sanctioning orgs as major titles and recognise the Ring champ as the only champ. There is no reason why they shouldn't do this, and the more that do, the closer we get back to having one champion per division

Now, when did Cotto became a unified champion to warrant the supposed "Super" title? Last time I checked, Cotto is still only holding the WBA belt and nothing else.
Cotto has the World Boxing Board title aswell duh

Medved, you omitted one the aggregious examples of the WBA's corruptive practices:

                      Middleweight:

                      Super Champion: Felix Sturm
                      World Champion: Gennady Golovkin
                      Interim Champion: Hassan N'Dam

****king three champions? WTF has this sport come to? What can we do as fans to stop this madness?
