  • You know what's sad about Canelo? What hurts boxing

If he loses his next fight, or the next fight, or basically any fight where he steps up in class (funny that a WORLD CHAMP can still step UP in class, but that's beside the point), his stock will take a major hit.

At age 21, he has more than enough time before his twilight to increase in skill and ability... He's technically not even in his physical prime, which is usually around age 25 or so... And a loss might actually be good for him, considering it will help show him where he was flawed, and where he can improve upon.

But, as recent history shows, once u lose, ur a loser, and that's it. They no longer wanna pay to see u fight... So says a lot (arguably most) of today's boxing fans... Basically the new "rule" is, ur not allowed to lose until you've proven yourself, and I think that's hurting boxing.

Andre Berto, who's the latest victim of this that I can think of, is still a young guy, clearly has talent, speed, power, and time to get better, yet becuz he was voted guilty of being overrated, and finally took the loss everyone wanted to see him take, he's officially a bum. His speed, his power, those 2 knockdowns he dished out against the opponent that would beat him, and the fact he got up to fight 6 more rounds after being knocked down himself... That all accounts to nothing now that he has a loss...

My point simply is, GROW UP PEOPLE.... THE BEST FIGHTERS EVER HAVE LOSSES, AND JUST ABOUT EVERY UNDEFEATED FIGHTER IN HISTORY IS GROSSLY OVERRATED (don't forget the words "JUST ABOUT").... This kind of **** hurts boxing...

And u know what'll make it worse? Let's say Berto stops Dejan Zaveck in fantastic fashion... Just like how Ortiz, who was a complete bum not to long ago himself, he'll probably get accolades for it that truly doesn't deserve, which will result in him once again becoming overrated, and then when he fails another test, things will just get worse and worse...

A prime example of this is Amir Khan... Once he got knocked out, he's officially a glassjawed bum... CLEARLY, based on recent activities, he's proven that he's far from just a bum, but a lot of u people were so quick to say otherwise just becuz of 1 loss...

Im fully expecting him to drop a decision loss in the future. That doesn't mean he's a fraud or anything, everyone loses.

Hey, it is better to lose at a contender who is a threat than to lose to someone like Orlando Salido.

Honestly, look at Juan Manuel Lopez loss compared to Andre Berto's loss to Victor Ortiz. Really, for some reason Berto's stock increased from a loss than a win to a mediocre boxer. Berto was in a war, a good freaking repayable match to watch. Whereas, Lopez makes you just wonder.

If Canelo lose to a caliber of Miguel Cotto or Manny Pacquiao, I don't really see that as a problem. And if he survives all 12 rounds and gave himself memorable rounds where he had the upperhand then good for him.

As for Chavez Jr., that man seriously how is he still fighting non-named fighters?

Its also because of how their advertised. You can't treat a prize frighter like their Jesus incarnate and not expect a backlash when they loose. HBO and Showtime are both guilty of doing this. They talk about certain fighters like their the greatest thing since sliced bread because they want to turn them into cash cows. Thats why you have all these fighters making career choices like their chess strategies now. The goal is to avoid going broke and not showing your the best in this era. As a real fan now, you have to ignore the media and base your focus on the "sweet science" and how it really figures into a fight. Is it any wonder you have all these morons claiming Manny or Floyd can beat any boxer in any weight class now. Their bi-products of the hype machine

I think that Canelo had his way paved easily to a world title. Others have earned theirs the hard way & overcame alot to get what they got. But don't you find it funny that your whole point of view is based around a world champion stepping up in class? That mean that if he hasn't fought the best & is already a world champion, he was basically handed the friggin title, who's fault is that?

That's true about Canelo, but I already mentioned that THAT wasn't the point. Its not about him being a world champion, or really a "belt holder", its about the fact that when he loses, he's gonna unfairly be labeled a bum, which will take away from his stock, which will take away from his potential PPV status, which will take away from his media coverage, which will hurt boxing...

Proof is in the fact that he's already labeled OVERRATED, and already has a bunch of haters. Once he takes that loss, its a wrap
