McClellan's demise was partly because of London Ring Rules...

hahaha, i really need to make a video of the rabbit punching for this thread now, don't i?

5 of them were full force, torso and legs into it power punching.. and 2 of those 5 were after a hard power punch. they were in no way 'soft' , and he did it after gman was hurt. nuthugging and biased ftl.

He threw those same couple of soft rabbit punches to most of his opponents, they never seemed to hurt anybody.
That rabbit punch KO'd Iran Barkley. Soft rabbit punches? From Nigel Benn? Are you kidding? He's got close to a 100% KO ratio. I doubt those punches were as soft as you say they were.

I've watched the fight MANY times, and never saw Benn throw any rabbit punches using full force with torso and legs, WTF? Is that even possible?

I'll watch it again tonight and see if I can spot Benn throwing any rabbit punches any harder than he usually did.

He had Barkley out on his feet with the very first punch of the fight, then kind of roughed Barkley into the ropes and got him tangled into the ropes. Then, a right hand dropped Barkley followed by a clip on the back of the head while Barkley had his hands and feet on the canvas (is that the rabbit punch you talk about?). Then, Benn again dropped Barkley with a right hand and the referee stopped it on the three-knockdown rule. There was not one rabbit punch throw in that entire fight, unless you count when Benn clipped him as Barkley had fallen (that didn't do the damage and Barkley got straight back up anyway).

At the end of the day... Boxing is a dangerous sport!

In Vegas or other parts of the U.S. you guys like a "Mayweather vs Spinks" type fight, the art of hitting and not getting hit. But boxing can be brutal, and sometimes there are fighters like Benn that aren't all American trash talking for show... They mean business and they come to fight, and more importantly they come to win.

American fighters like Bernard Hopkins know dirty tricks and try them all the time... So U.S. fighters aren't exempt.

I know a lot of you were shocked by the way Ricky Hatton had no respect at all for Kostya Tszyu and went in there looking to beat Kostya into submission, but that's just the way some people fight.

It was very unfortunate that McClellan had a stroke in the ring that night, but I have to agree with JUYJUY, that the reason this happened is because he had a very sloppy defence, and had the heart of a lion. Bad combination against one of the biggest punchers in the sports history.

if you want to think that, go ahead. ignorance is bliss.
anywhere you go in the world, the majority of the fans prefer a slugfest.

edit: i don't know what's dumber, you quoting yourself or making silly generalizations.

At the end of the day, this is more to do with nationality than reality

Next you'll be telling me that Benn's huuuuge and meaningful headbutt smashed Gerald's brain up

rabbit punches and hitting below the belt are two things i can't seem to swallow. i love all the other dirty 'tricks', spinning, shoulder pushing, steppingo n the guy's foot...there just seems to be a sort of art to it...but somehow i just can't stomach hitting a guy's nuts or damaging his brain stem...

Rabbit punches should never be aloud by the ref. I don't care if it's US, UK or anywhere else, it shouldn't be aloud period. I think the ref should take a point away from just one rabbit punch.

Slipx, I have a question for you. Why is Bitchnard Bitchkins is your favorite fighter, he's known for his rabbit punches. If you're against rabbit punching, then why Bitchkins is your favorite fighter. Bitchkins gets away with it just like many other dirty fighters did. I agree Benn was a dirty fighter.

Benn was a dirty fighter, but Bitchkins is dirty just like Benn.
