Why is there a catch weight for Cotto vs Margarito II?

Can't both guys make 154lbs. comfortably? What's the official weight limit for the fight 153lbs.? This seems like more Top Rank shenanigans to me...I wouldn't be surprised to see Donaire vs Gamboa at a 124lbs. catch weight.

153-154 it doesn't matter. It is still 3 more pounds to Margaritos advantage than in his last fight.

Putting aside the fact that it is only a 1 pound catch weight, which is absurd in it's own right, but who is the catch weight for?

Cotto is a 154 pound champ, Margarito is a welter who has fought at 154 several times, and it is Cotto asking for the catch weight. Since when does the person at the higher weight demand a catch weight for a guy moving up to defend his own title in his own weight class?

Then you factor in that the catch weight is only one pound difference. It is purely idiotic.

Cotto won the title against Foreman...as much as I like Yuri I'd say most of the known names in ww or jmw would have beat him. Not like he accomplished a lot there.

because Cotto is being a ***** since moving up to 154 who he fought?

wonder what Cotto would ask for if he was fighting Martinez

Either way Martinez would stomp him. He's too fast, in his prime and a lot more power.

To make boxing look just a little more ridiculous than it already does.

He wouldn't, he turned that fight down flat out. And Bob Arum was outraged at HBO because they gave the date to Martinez not Cotto.
