Yeah, I figured it was. Still, Ward fought most his career right at 140 right. Maybe a couple pounds over 140 here and there. Mayorga fought a full-fledged middleweight Trinidad. I don't think Ward could've gone up to 154 and kept from being knocked out by Vargas.

Ward was tough, but I'm not convinced he was necessarily tougher than Mayorga. I will say this for Ward. He was more disciplined than a lot of full-time pro fighters today. He was just a part time fighter, possibly the best part-time fighter ever. That's saying a lot.

I picked Ward, because I've never seen Ward crumple from body shots like Mayorga did against Trinidad. The only reason Mayorga lasted as long as he did is because Trinidad took so long to go to the body. Ward fought a great body puncher in Gatti that ALWAYS comes in WAY overweight to EVERY fight, even traded liver shots with him!

Ward is as tough as they come!!!! Mayorga is a tough customer as well, but for any of us to decide who is tougher is impossible!!!! They are both tough as nails!!!!

I gotta go with Micky Ward. I know for sure Micky Ward would take anything you gave him, but I'm not so sure about Mayorga. He might crumble under sustained pressure or turn to cheap tactics if he's losing.

Ward never got KO'd and never quit. He just fought for pride and took a lot of punishment but never backed down. He also never complained and never reverted to dirty tactics. I also think Mayorga would not have gotten up from a shot like the one Ward took against Gatti in their 2nd fight. Ward also had great work ethic (staying at 140 his whole career).

Mayorga has a different type of toughness. He has that machismo that makes him think he invincible and so he's willing to get hit just to show the other guy he can take the punch. But Mayorga will fight dirty, complain and showboat. He's tough as nails but his mystique as a crazy unbeatable guy was really shattered against Tito. I don't think he'll ever have that same aura he had before that fight. That doesn't mean he's not tough, because he is one tough SOB.

People overhype Mayorga and both fighters are not on Vargas' level.
