As far as who the two top guys are popularity wise, it has to go to both Anderson Silva and GSP. What I've noticed in contrast to Boxing is the casual MMA fans go for the main event, but overall want to watch the UFC in general as where most casual Boxing fans do the same, want to watch the main event, but won't mind getting to the bar or a friend's house at 11pm to JUST watch the main event. What Boxing is attempting to do now is provide quality undercards to get more incentive to buy the PPV instead of waiting 6 weeks for a Tecate rebate, and honestly, they should've been doing this a while ago. But it comes down to money. People criticize Dana White's overall payout for fighters, which in most cases rivals even Kelly Pavlik's 1 fight contract, but look what he's doing to make the sport more accessible and marketable? And now the Fox deal? Obviously, he's doing something right, and the crazy thing is people think he's trying to compete with Boxing when in reality he's just building on his brand while Boxing's overall model in today's standards doesn't seem to be working considering it's level of popularity isn't close to where it used to be.
This may seem as if I'm bashing Boxing which is the complete opposite, but I can't just deny the fact that the UFC (which I also enjoy) are making moves for the future as where Boxing, though still filled with potentially great match ups, just isn't on the radar like it used to be, and it's not because of the UFC.
