I voted that they do affect the outcome, and for the record, personally i think they are bull****. If they didnt affect outcome or didnt really matter they wouldnt exist. I dont buy the whole its for a mental edge **** either.

Imo if a catchweight is proposed and agreed then no belts should be able to change hands. If the fighters just want the fight at a certain weight for some reason, whatever, thats cool. I think belts should be won and defended within the range of the weight class they are for only though. No weight stipulations outside the range of the weight class.

OK, but for who? The one who's coming up or the one that's going down?

What this guy said. I have no problem with catcheights as long as a title isn't going to change hands. If you want a title then fight at the division limit, if not then take your behind to a different weight division. In this case it just seems like they aren't confident enough in Cotto's ability to get the job done, so they ask for a catchweight. I can understand wanting to get revenge because he may feel that Margs cheated in their first fight, but c'mon Cotto, a catchweight? You're better than that son.

                look at Margs and cotto,
I mean Cotto is campaigning at 154 but hes the one trying to get the CW, it would most definitely benefit margs to fight at the full 154 but cotto trying to go all the way down to 150... see theres not really an answer to your question on this one

I agree it can be a case by case thing. But, then that's why I believe people blow the catch-weight thing out of proportion. Not every time the smaller fighter ask for a catch-weight means their at an advantage. In some it just makes a fight that has no chance of happening actually get done and make it fair. And, then in some other instances it can be BS.

People believe every word Freddy Roach says so believe him when he said every pound matters!! If it wasn't a big factor for most guys then people wouldn't ask for them...advantage Cotto.

DON'T FIGHT AT THE WEIGHT IF YOU STILL NEED CATCH WEIGHTS...ESPECIALLY WHEN A TITLE IS ON THE LINE!!!!

But, then there are so many examples that disprove what your saying. A lot of examples.
