My opinion is Cotto would still give him a run for his money at 154. Not saying he would win but it would make for a good fight. It makes good buissness sense if he can't get Pac or May.
And, this was before he won his World title. When was a prospect.
And, part of the big 3 head monster prospect at 140. Where people were arguing who the best one amongst Ricardo Williams Jr, Miguel Cotto, and Panchito Bojado.
Cotto was on ESPN headlining. was on PPV televised undercards, under Oscar De la Hoya.
Yes he earned all the hype he received by later beating Mosley and such. But, before all of that. He was helped plenty by Top rank and their backing. Sergio Martinez wasn't so lucky.
Oscar De la Hoya begged WBC to remove Martinez as his mandatory. And, the WBC did it and nobody gave a damn about it. Because, nobody who Martinez was. Because, he wasn't as lucky to have the promotional backing coming up as Cotto was.
And, I think Martinez-Cotto right now at 154 is a mismatch.

Laughter is good J. Who would you say was the best from the 140 lb. group you mentioned ? The hype came before Mosely to us boxing junkies not to the casual fan. When I say he earned it I'm not talking about climbing the alphabet soup ladder !!! He stayed unbeaten and was taking fighters out in grand fassion. He earned it !!! Martinez took a different route now hes trying to cash in. Good for him and good luck to him.
