This thread is supposed to be about James Toney.

And I've given up with the "Byrd-Klitschko II: Wlad win not a formality?" thread.

You made an off base comment, and I called you on it.

You wanted to argue further, and I obliged.

Besides, there isn't a lot to discuss about one of the greatest fighters of this era being a "Phoney".

James Toney is a phony in the heavy division. He's beaten mediocre Ruiz, who changed his style from a clinch-fest to a more fan friendly, and couldn't even KO ruiz, and now he beat a journeyman AT BEST in Guinn and now he's the saviour.

Toney won't beat Wlad, Vitali, or Brewster which leaves him at the 4th best heavy in the worst era of HW boxing EVER. Overated is the only word I can use for him at heavy.

Unifying titles, and a hundred million dollars.

You nut huggers just want to play the "Big bad Don King" card, and that's fine.

Vitali will never be "The" Champion if he doens't unify titles.

Signing on Don King as a co promoter would only be a positive thing.

If he doesn't, he can stick to fighting once a year agasint the "Oleg Maskievs" of the world while proclaiming he makes the title, not the other way around.

He's 34, and if he doesn't unify and sign the big fights, he'll soon find himslef retired with Hassim Rahman and Larry Donald as his biggest career wins.

Yeah ok! You go tell that to John Ruiz and Chris Byrd and Mike Tyson who claims King stold $100 million from Mike. Weather that part is true or not, how can anyone with sense doubt that it might be true!

They all had King as their exclusive promotor.

Vitali has the option of working in Don King promotions, because if he wins and his popularity increases, everyone involved stands to make money.

That's more money than he'd make otherwise, and opportunities at unification fights.

I guess we'll find out what the alternative is, won't we?

Toney beat Ruiz out of shape and with one arm.

He's a slick and exciting all time great HoF fighter who's currently the most skilled fighter at Heavyweight.

Anyone who doesn't enjoy watching Toney fight in a Heavyweight divsion that's full of lumbering unskilled giants needs to give their head a shake.

Brewster has all but admitted he's afraid of Toney, clearly stating he doesn't want to fight him.

Byrd vs Toney looks increasingly likely for Jan of 2006, and if he wins that fight, hopefully we'll see him and Vitali get it on.

If none of that sounds exciting to you in contrast with what's out there right now, you are sadly confused.

Toney is the most skilled fighter in the heavyweight division, easily. Byrd is second. Hopefully skill will be enough. All the other guys have over Toney is size. Power? Well, that's just due to size. For Toney to even be competitive against any heavyweight speaks volumes about how good Toney is and how bad the other heavyweights are.
