When I spoke with him, he made it 100% clear that he will be MIDDLE WEIGHT CHAMPION of the World! While ranked as a SMW, 15 of his 25 fights he weighed a low 162lbs or less. This is FACT, check the stats.
Thanks for posting this stuff, man. I've only recently started to follow Peter. He looks really lean...doesn't surprise me to hear that he stays near his fighting weight at all times. If Bute walks around at 190, he probably comes into the ring at about 180. That would be significantly higher than the weight you report for Quillin. I doubt that Peter is ducking anyone, but it's a little disappointing that he turned Bute down for a title shot.

Quillin is a good fighter with promise, but there is no way he should be fighting the likes of Bute and Martinez right now. He needs at least three more fights, and two against some more solid competition.

It's not ducking -- Quillin has mostly fought at 160 and wants to focus his young career there.

I understand that Quillin wants to make his mark at middleweight. From my limited understanding of Pete's career, what you say seems to make sense. But turning down an offer from Bute and seeking to challenge Martinez doesn't completely square with what you're saying. The weight issues are understandable; the quality issues aren't. "Maravilla" is the better fighter. Waiting to call out Sergio after a couple of wins against tough opposition would make more sense, as you state.
