Well I'd rather watch 2 masterful boxers fighting for history, than attend a party full of drunk dudes (I'm assuming not so many girls attended) eating shitty food and playing cards, probably not even for money being that $50 is such a big deal for you. But then again, some people here actually post on a boxing forum because they watch and participate in boxing, and not for the excuse to invite all your dude friends over and get drunk together (who knows, maybe you'll get lucky!)..
why do "boxing"fans hope"boxing" matches dont do well??

PPV should be reserved for mega fights not some gimme fight. Lewis vs Tyson, Tyson fight Holyfield.
Easy money for the networks if you start shelling out for fights like this.Comment

This is a hardcore fight fans fight, and hardcore fans know what they will be getting so it is the best of both worlds, hardcore fans that want to see it can buy it and HBO can put on better fights that are more widely enjoyable.
Or do you want 6 Hopkins-Dawson type fights on HBO a year because that is about what they could afford~ judging by the heat HBO already gets I doubt people would find that a good scenario.Comment

**** went way over his headComment

boxing fans hope bad fights do poorly b/c if gives promoters, networks, etc incentive to produce more compelling match ups, if fights where one guy is going to clearly beat the other consistently do well, why would that fighter choose to step up his level of competition, and why would the networks make him? they wouldn't and we would keep getting fights with a star vs. a no hoper, simple as thatComment

My opinion is it should be PPV because it is not a fight casual fans want and will not excite them. Why should HBO put money into a fight like that when they can put on cheaper more exciting fights like the ones you listed~
