Bob Fitzsimmons, Ted 'Kid' Lewis are both greater IMO, I can't really think of many British greats at the moment.

      I agree.

      The greatest being Fitzsimmons, IMO.

Bob Fitzsimons was only born in England and left there as a baby. Kid Lewis was selected as being the greatest British fighter of the 20th century a number of years ago by a large panel of experts. And when you look at his record you can see why.

He didn't actually hit like a middleweight, that's just a story, he just happened to be very small and very light, usually under 100 lbs, and when still a kid, could KD or KO grown men, who of course were not fighters but would challenge him in the Carnival boxing booth. He still packed a hefty wallop and had huge KO figures.

But keep in mind that very few of his opponents until much later in his career, were real pro fighters, they were all working men, usually working in the mines and trying to earn a bit extra.
