Because he had a soft spot for Michael Dokes & Jesse Ferguson and plus he wanted to hang with the troops in Somalia and go live the life of the "Heavyweight Champion of the World"...or at least what HE though that life should be.

Plus he didn't need that belt. He was THE champ with or without it.

More fighters should toss the ABC belts and focus on lineage.

I absolutely hate Holyfield, but if you like Tyson or any of those 90's HW's that is a great book.

Holyfield is unbelievable unbiased in his take on things and drops a lot of insight and knowledge of things that took place around that time. It's under $20 bucks but if you don't feel like paying for it, just go to barnes n nobles one day and just read it for free.

Also Newman wanted to make Bowe vs Foreman and just refused to do business with Lewis and his team at the time. I think it was suppose to be a HW tourney with Bowe, Lewis, Holyfield and Ruddock but Newman wanted to have Bowe go a different directions.

Also HBO had the fight ready to go in 94(maybe 95....but I can't remember) but Lennox got KO'd by McCall preventing the fight from happening.

Bowe was never afraid of Lewis and actually called him a ****** and pushed for the fight after his title fight against Holyfield in 1992.

Like all fights that do not get made, it all comes down to risk vs reward. The fighter wanting the title, always sees only the reward. The fighter on top, always sees the risk and wants to be compensated depending on how much risk is there.

Lewis was a formidable opponent. He was a huge risk, but was not a big enough name in the US at the time. In fact at that time Lewis had a hard time landing a good opponent. Don King even paid him 3 million to step aside at one time.

Everyone now wants to fight Manny or Floyd. Why? Because those two are the cash cows. Opponents see them as a no lose situation. This is also the reason they are not fighting each other. Why should Manny fight Floyd for 30-40 million and have a very good chance at losing, when he can fight some retreads for 25 million a pop? The same goes for Floyd actually. Simply put even though they claim this fight is huge money, there is a huge risk involved for both and in the grand scheme of things, the money for them is not much greater.

Frank Maloney states that Lewis was offered 10% of the purse in the fight with Bowe. Rid**** clearly didnt want to avenge his olympic defeat or else he would be more open to negotiations. Now the name "Bowe" is linked with ducking Lewis and thats how he will be rememered.

Lewis said that he would come out of retirement to face Bowe even now. The fight should have happend and you'd like to have seen Bowe abit more keen to get revenge just as you'd like to see Khan want to avenge his shameful loss.

Yep. Bowe wanted a ridiculous and unrealistic split of the purse. He knew Lewis would spank him again.

Ridiculous Bowe definitely chickened out of that fight. He wanted absolutely none of Lewis after what he did to Ruddock.

The hair styles in that video are hilarious, bowe's hair looks crazy. I'm glad he decided to shave it all off in the end because he looked better without hair. Well, atleast with shorter hair. I guess that was the early 90's look? Having long hair? I like the late 90's/2000's look where guys have short hair.
