alot of Lewis/uk fans and uniformed boxing fans will tell you it was because he was scared.
Not alot of people know this but his manager was the reason that fight didn't happen and Bowe was being short changed for that fight.
If you read the book called "Becoming Holyfield, Evander Holyfield went in depth about the situation, and stated that it wasn't the fact that Bowe was scared, it was just managerial problems/issues with the split, so Bowe said fvkk it and threw the belt in the trash.
FWIW Holyfield has no affliation or biased towards either side, but he new Bowes manager real well and was close to that situation as all those guys were highly ranked HW and in contention to face each other.
If I get a chance I can actually upload the section where holyfield discusses this.Comment

I personally thought Bowe would have won if he wasn't such a mental midget.
He had just as good of jab, was the better inside fighter and also had the better chin, and IMO was the better boxer of the two at the time (Lennox hadn't came full circle as a fighter at that time).dComment

Definitely didn't know about that. I didn't think Bowe was scared though. Upload that section if you get a chance though. I'm probably gonna buy the book.alot of Lewis/uk fans and uniformed boxing fans will tell you it was because he was scared.

sorry bro I'm going off the dome as I read the holyfield book 2 years ago and I haven't touch it since.
Basically when I say managerial problems, I'm saying his manager (I think his last name was Newman or something like that) was a very difficult person to make fights with. He almost prevented the holyfield fight which is why Evander stated that he was the problem with Bowe vs Lewis happening as well as being an insider due to him being a top contender at the time.
IIRC it was newman who made Bowe do that to prove some ridiculous point, but Bowe actually wanted the fight but his manager refused to work with Lewis' people at the time.
Again, there is a whole chapter in the book called "becoming holyfield" but if I do find some info online I will post it.Comment
