  • Comments Thread For: Arum: Pavlik Will Have a Long Road Back To TV Dates

Although it's never a surprise in boxing when fences that don't seem capable of being mended nevertheless are, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum believes former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik is going to play hell trying to re-establish a shaky reputation that was further damaged when Pavlik pulled out of a fight with Darryl Cunningham slated for Aug. 6. Supposedly, he did so because he was unhappy with money being offered for that fight as well as for a future fight with super middleweight champion Lucian Bute.

To think some brain dead fans supported his decision to not fight for less money. As if it is OKAY to pull out of a fight 4 days before the fight??!!! I guess the prescription on his glasses ran out just before he signed the contract with the $ amounts! Not to mention burning Showtime bridges. HBO is not going to take. He'll be lucky to get ESPN wages. What an idiot.

Pavlik started camp with no contract and didn't even bother to ask how much he was getting paid, and we're supposed to feel -sorry- for him when he cancels the fight because he didnt bother to find out till fight week? No sir.

I don't think there is a TV Network that's going to pay for a Pavlik fight ever again. The guy has cancelled fights 5 times since his 2008 loss against Hopkins, more than he actually fought (4 times).

Considering what Pavlik is doing latelly, I predict that the next article about him will have a title like this: "Arum: Pavlik will have a long road back from jail".

If pavlik fights and beats Cunningham and then Bute, he's back to big money. I can understand pavlik feeling a bit slighted, I mean wtf Bob just gave Mosley 5mil to do whatever you call what he did against Pac. 50g for Cunningham on showtime is a little low, 1.15m for Bute is about right. I'm sure done the right way he could've squeezed a bit more outta Bob, but Kelly did himself no favor by making Arum look bad.

Pavlik should've faked an injury to pull out of the fight. He would've got some negativity but not to this scale. In being honest Pavlik came off like an arrogant prick. Pavlik needs to get a better manager, someone who will protect his public image better.
I believe the contract came last minute like Pavlik said because Arum and King are a lot alike and they know all the tricks of this game. Arum is just better than King at using and manipulating the media to his advantage. Notice you never hear about how much these two make in the fights they promote or how much they are worth. Smart men.
