There were only the 8 divisions and only one belt in each division.
Henry Armstrong was a 3 weight world champ and Mayweather is a 5 weight world champ.
But Armstrong did it in a era where there was only eight divisions only one recognised world champ.
So how does Mayweather do.
Well he would be too big to make feather and because there is no superfeatherweight division so he would have to start his career at lighweight.
No the man at the weight when Floyd was looking for a title was Sugar Shane Mosley.
Shane was a beast at lightweight knocking out everyone, could Floyd at that age beat a prime Shane Mosley at his best weight. It is very debatable if Floyd could win this fight.
Floyd could have waited it out for Shane to move up and I think he would have won a title at light weight.
Then there is not light welter division so no title for Floyd there.
And then we are on to welter. Now Floyd beat Baldomir and Judah titles holders at the weight but would they be title holders with only one belt.
Corey Spinks and Zab Judah before hand avoided their number one contender Antonio Margarito.
Would Floyd take the Margarito challenge if he had too? And would he pass that challenge? Both very debatable.
Then were are on to light middle, what doesn't exist, so no title there for Floyd.
At middleweight Floyd would have been too small and would get beat by huge middles like Taylor and Pavlik or even by the defensive genius that is Winky, who might also been the man at the weight.
So there you have it Mayweather at the very most would be a 2 weight world champ and may have only been a 1 weight world champ.
Kind of puts Henry Armstrong's achievements in perspective because under the same conditions he became a 3 weight world champ and tried his hand at a 4th weight as well.
What do you think? How many titles does Floyd win under these conditions?
