Comments Thread For: Mares-Agbeko Rematch Ordered, IBF Purse Bid on 9/15

Eric Gomez, Vice President of Golden Boy Promotions, has advised BoxingScene.com that a letter was received from IBF, which orders Abner Mares to schedule an immediate rematch with Joseph Agbeko. The final bout of Showtime's bantamweight tournament took place on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Mares won a twelve round majority decision to unify the IBF and WBC silver titles, but it was referee Russell Mora's performance during the fight that overshadowed anything that was accomplished in the ring.

Yes, that's all both sides needed to happen. Let Mares have his win and his title, but give Agbeko his chance to win it back.

KUDOS TO THE IBF... the fans are the real winners here and you gotta admit that Agbeko deserves this... lets see if Mares can win without low blows... its gonna be in his head, because you know all eyes and ears are gonna be on his body punching and anything close to a low blow is gonna get scrutinized... in a way this win did horrible things to Mares' career, his low blow tactics will now never be tolerated!!!

Lets see who GBP bribes to get this fight shot-down. Will they pay Don King some cash to pay Agbeko some step-aside money? and I mean by DK keeping all the cash and telling Agbeko to STFu

it's the fair thing to do...this is when rematches should immediately happen...i wonder what will happen with malinga who is number one and just yesterday i read here where he wants to fight mares next...let's see how that goes but i agree with the rematch, that ref should not be involved in championship fights for a while

Great news. Mares is going to have to be super careful in this fight, if he goes to the belt line hes getting called for low blows after last time. Hes not going to get the benefit of the doubt.
