MAIDANA: "KHAN Begged The WBA Not To Fight Me"

Maidana: Khan begged the WBA not to fight me again for 18 months
    August 9th, 2011

By William Mackay: It seems that WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) hasn’t exactly been eager to get back in the ring with Marcos Maidana (30-2, 27 KO’s) after taking a savage beating from Maidana in close win over him last December. Khan was out on his feet in the last three rounds and took one-way traffic while having Maidana peeled off of him again and again by referee Joe Cortez while Khan was taking a lot of shots.

Khan says that Khan didn’t want a rematch with him when he attempted to get back in the ring for some reason. Normally fighters that have just gone through a fight of the year bout with another guy, like Khan did with Maidana, are eager to get back in the ring with that fighter in order to take advantage of the fan appeal that their first fight got. But not Khan.

For some reason, he wants no part of fighting Maidana again.

Here’s what Maidana had to say about Khan on his twitter account:

“What Khan doesn’t say is that he begged the WBA in writing that they won’t put me in front of him again, like we should have. Very funny that Amir Khan says that he offered to fight a number of fighters and they said no. Khan asks now Bradley to Fed-Ex his belt. Then, Khan should Fed-Ex his to me. Hehe. We asked [Khan] for a rematch and they asked the WBA for an 18 month extension.”

That’s sad if it’s true. Khan going out of his way to get the WBA to let him bypass a risky rematch with Maidana in order to face weaker punching guys like Paul McCloskey and Zab Judah. That almost seems like a cherry picking move.

He needs to worry about Guerrero. I see an ass whooping coming his way.

Khan is talking about fighting Morales. Why isn't Maidana on the table?

In fact, that should have been an immediate rematch.

In that case, shouldn't Maidana have had to rematch Morales?

LOL you got this off BN24? Dude please that site is scum!

And maidana the dirty lil b!tch moaning farm boy should be grateful khan is now superchamp which gives him a chance to be world champ. With khan as regular champ he would never have won that strap. Khan's physique has improved a lot since the maidana fight he looks a lot bigger! He would spank maidana the 2nd time round.

I definitely agree that if Maidana were to win, he would be the better option than Morales at this point.

All I was saying is Maidana better not take Guerrero lightly, I think dude is going to be a beast at 140.

Like worry about Khan after the fight. He needs to be 100% focused on The Ghost.

Why would you be , uh, "concerned" about having Khan face Maidana again?

OR, Khan can try to avenge his humiliating KO loss. Surely, he would want to avenge that. Right?
