    It depends on the style.

Bad examples of both when lacking one:

      Pauli Malignaggi (speed)

Shane Carwin (power) (yeah so what if its MMA he comes to mind)

A successful combo of both speed and power is best say Pacman.

If only choose one im going with.......

Speed kills. Can't hit what you can't see. That being said I find it's easier to train for speed than for power, so it'd be nice to be born with that Maidana type of heavy handed power where even glancing blows give the wibblies... "AND THE WOBBLIES!"

Thinking about it I would go with power because your born with heavy hands (somewhat) and you can develop speed easier w training and mental application.

Speed. The punches you don't see coming is what hurts you the most.

If you can't catch them, you can't land anything flush. I'd go with speed, after that just work on accuracy and as much power you can try to develop.

Speed no doubt. it really is what sets apart the good from the very best in a lot of positions in different sports.

For boxing....it's always been a speed sport to me - if you have speed ,you already have one half of the equation when trying to measure force maximized.

speed (or acceleration) x mass = power .

                simple analogy, i know...

Speed and power are gifts or inborn. You can't learn it anywhere.

False. Speed can absolutely be taught. Power can be optimized.
