  • Was Foreman Let Go From HBO For Disagreeing With Merchant?

I never figured out why HBO let Big George go.

After watching old fights, I noticed he disagreed with Merchant and Lampley a lot on air. But in my opinion, he was just being the yin to the yang. He evened things out and kept the commentating honest.

Why do you think Foreman was let go and was the reason understandable?

Don't know why big George was let but I liked him most of the time when he was on the broadcast. George was the best former boxer commentator that HBO has had.

I wouldn't be suprised if that is why he was let go. You know someplaces you have to be a company man and big George has enough self respect and money where he doesn't have to wear that hat.

Simple. He missed his family too much. Remember he also had to promote the grill at the time and was also a spokesman for Meineke. Remember that commentating isn't just a once a week thing, HBO commentators meet multiple times a week to discuss things. This is why Roy Jones was let go the first time. He kept on missing HBO meetings.

George never knew what the hell he was talking about, but just because he'd been a champ, a legend, he thought he did. he was just as ****** a commentator as he was a fighter in his prime. every fight he's commentated on I've watched on mute.

George Foreman's job was in jeopardy back in 1994. Holyfield was fighting against Michael Moorer.

Holyfield floored Moorer cleanly, but none of the damn judges scored it a 10-8 round for Holyfield! If I remember correctly, one judge even scored it a even round.

At the end of the fight, Foreman, being occasionally outspoken, all but accused Duva of fixing the fight. The Duvas were outraged over the allegation and threatened to take legal action.

I remember HBO issued an apology and both Lampley and Merchant apologized for their comments. They said that the judges got it right and that they were both wrong. Foreman was the only one to stand his ground and tell the truth.

After that, Foreman NEVER got along with Lampley and Merchant. That was the beginning of the end.

I've always hated Larry Merchant. He's always been a self entitled prick who does nothing but begrudge fighters their due at the end of fights. He's worthless and always has been.

Lampley however, never seemed to be the complete kiss ass that Merchant has consistently been. I was surprised to see him fold like a pair of pants and leave George out on his own like that.

I guess he just wanted to protect his job. I mean they get paid alot of money to talk about boxing while wearing suits. I guess he felt he needed to do what was right for his career.

Anyway, those two are pieces of ****. From Lampley's "**** **** ****" tirade to Merchant attacking a man in the ring who touched his microphone. I wonder if Merchant would have had those balls if about 50 security agents weren't on all sides of the ring and inside it as well.

O ok. I never heard that story.

I don't mind Lampley, but Merchant on the other hand.....

I wouldn't doubt it. Emanual pisses me off because he allows them to say anything and even attack him at times... I've seen Manny give interviews after fights, and he is nowhere near as reserved as he appears to be on the HBO set... Could it be that Manny thinks his job would be in jeopardy if he speaks out against those biased bastards?

Hbo let Foreman go after the Mosley-Oscar 2 fight. Foreman called the judges on the bs win for Mosley. I remember that like it was yesterday. Foreman was like Oscar won this fight easily, I see a trillogy in the making. He was dissatisfied with the decision & daid so out loud. That was his last big fight analysist, if I'm not mistaken.

I wish Big George wouldn't have protected them when the riot broke out after Bowe vs Golata when the fans were trying to get to both of them.
