  • Why did many sleep on Salido in his fight with Juanma?

In the lead-up to this fight, there were a lot of great fights that were going to be presented around the same time. There was a DISTINCT thread asking posters which of the fights had the best chance of an upset, most people said other fighters had better chances of upsets than Salido against Juanma.

You can check my post history, I never once felt comfortable about that fight and never saw Salido as a pushover, not by a longshot. It was perplexing to me how people were dismissing Salido as just another opponent that Juanma would take out late (or decision comfortably).

At the time, all I knew about Salido was that I had seen him on an HBO card facing Yuriorkis Gamboa in which he was able to hold his own (but still lost by a wide margin).

Just browsing around right now thinking about the fight, it's incredible to think about how much of an underdog he was proclaimed yet when you look at his record, it's astounding to see the following:

    1. Loss against Yuriorkis Gamboa by decision (knocked him down once in the fight)

    2. Decisioned Robert Guerrero (but had the decision overturned due to a failed drug test)

    3. Lost against Juan Manuel Márquez by decision(wow!)

    4. Stopped Rogers Mtagwa in five rounds (Mtagwa, who got blown out by Gamboa yet almost stopped Juanma in the last two rounds of their fight)

Just sayin'. If anybody wants to bet with me, I'll give you 2 to 1 odds that Juanma gets beat again. My 1M to anyone's 500k.

Seeing these kind of things makes me much more confident that Salido will win in the rematch.

I couldn't remember any of Salido's fights and was still hanging on to the hype that was fed to us about Juanma...

I remember watching the fight in Mexico and thinking, "Juanma's gonna look great and take him out early." After he won, I looked him up on boxrec and remembered watching him on more than one occasion and it made more sense to me then.

Honestly, I don't think Juanma wants the rematch. He knows what he has coming to him if he signs the contract. He traveled to Sonora to watch him fight the other day and to hype up the rematch, but got scared when he saw Salido toying with his opponent... Now he wants a tuneup

I knew Salido was gonna catch him with that overhand right in the fight sooner or later but I didn't expect JuanMa to be that hurt by it honestly. I expected JuanMa to put a beating on Salido.

Alot of people slept on the fight because of the hype. People were thinking Gamboa-JuanMa, so they underestimated every opponent either man faced. Just like what everyone is doing right now with Mayweather-Pacquiao. I got a rude awakening that night for sure.

Also, I'll take your bet. I have a feeling the rematch is gonna be at 130 aswell.

It was because he lost to Gamboa, and people consider Gamboa and Lopez to be the same level fighter. I didn't sleep on him, but I didn't think he would stop Lopez. That surprised me.

Because he lost to Gamboa and his record.

plus if it wasn't Salido it would've been Mikey Garcia
maybe not by stoppage but a comfortable decision IMO

                You can check my post history also;

I gave Salido a legit chance of beating Lopez, a very good chance.

I was shot down for it and time and time again said the fight was absolutely legit for Juanma.

Of course I expected Juanma to win but knew Salido had a great chance.

I didn't expect him to stop him, though.

Good thread and good call. Once I saw the fighter Salido was vs JMM and vs Guerrero, I knew this would not be an easy fight for JuanMa.

JuanMa is a power puncher, but he's not a great boxer and his defense against the right is poor to say the least. Salido is also a guy who hasn't been stopped in over 10 years. He's kind of like a Margarito in that he's a late bloomer because he turned pro so early in his career. I think he was 15 when he turned pro.

I see the same thing happening again and with the confidence and recent performance by Salido, I think he's hitting his stride. I don't think he has enough to beat Gamboa but he will beat JuanMa again by KO or TKO.

I think the bigger question is why did JuanMa's handlers put him up against a guy like Salido before this big money fight was supposed to happen against Gamboa? Do they not watch boxing? Do they not realize that JuanMa is susceptible to the right hand and that's Salido's best shot?

It was a real *** up on their part, they should have wanted no part of Salido just because he was a tough sob. They ***ed up the money....

Salido was and still is a Journeyman at BEST and a BUM at worst, he just got lucky. You know when they say a fighter wins a fight 9 out of 10 times? well this was the 1 out of 10 exception.

puto JuanMa probably didnt do any hard training and was just chilling.

JuanMa KO's Salido in 3rd next fight
