When you speak about talent, real talent this guy is what your talking about. His name is Gary Russell. I think he will be a PPV star like Mayweather in a few years. He has defense, which is what seperates him from all the rest. He blocks, catches, rolls, slips, side steps, counter, he can fight inside and outside. Hes always in shape, very very dedicated. The only fighter that I see thats on the track of being a pure all around boxer ,meaning offensive and defensive wizard is Gary Russell Jr.

He has no fans. He sells 500 tickets. "PPV King" is Oscar.
Put Oscar vs bum into an arena with 30,000 seats and see how many showup and buy the ppv
Put Floyd vs Bum into an arena with 30,000 seats and see how many show up and buy the ppv.
Gary Russell has the same chance of becoming a PPV King as I do becoming a Reality King.

Hell Barrera and Morales weren't really PPV star.
They draw good ratings. They were good live gate draws...But, PPV? Not really.
And, it's because of the weight-class.
You need to add all 3 of Pac-Morales fights to reach a mili...Great numbers for that weight-class. But, not PPV star.
The record for most PPV sold at 135 and less is 400k by Pac-JMM II. Really for that weight-class that's like a mili buys right there. But, overall it's a huge PPV. And, neither at the time were PPV star.
Look at weight-class Pac really became a PPV star, same with Oscar and Floyd.
The weight-class that Gary Russell fight's in is not a weight-class that creates PPV star. And, he won't be one.
I got high hopes for Gary Russell. He might become P4P level fighter, HOF'er and, maybe even an ATG. However, that does not transend into a PPV star. The TS didn't show any evidence to back his claim as a PPV star. Because, it takes more than skills, talent, athleticism, IQ, explosiveness to being a PPV star. Hell you don't even need all that to be a PPV star.
I doubt he becomes a PPV star TBH. Somebody like Jose Benavidez Jr, Alvarez, Khan, Ortiz(if he gets by Floyd, seriously doubt it) can become PPV star.

Agree 100%
The truth of the matter is, it'll take either a fighter with a big ethnic following, an American Heavyweight that's actually good, a white fighter that shows great skills, or a fighter that can beat Floyd Mayweather and/or Pacquiao to become the next PPV king. Russell is a great fighter and might become an elite but the odds are stacked against him to be a huge draw, he fights at the lower weight classes and he's black (excuse my political incorrectness, but I'm a straight shooter).Last edited by _original_; 08-10-2011, 12:00 AM.
