But dont forget he was going to make 1.35m against Bute, this was a warmup fight.

ESPN main events pay 20 grand usually... or less. they often allow for a total budget of 20 grand of purses for their entire televised card.

wolak earned 20 grand (they split the 20 grand purse [rodriguez and wolak])
    10 from espn
    and ten from his promotor

    rodriguez got 10 grand.

showboat paying 50 grand is honestly very high
i cant imagine anybody but top tier prospects getting that much money for a ten round fight

most journeymen you see at the clubs are making less than 5 grand a fight
    a lot less

when you start out boxing in four rounders, unless you have a serious pedigree, you make about 100 bucks a round

    400 for a 4 round fight
maybe 800 for the four rounds

heavyweights make a lot more money than all other weight classes

until you get on to a big network you don't make a lot of money boxing unless you get lots of fights

I could see this taking place in Romania so both fighters getting 3-4m a piece, since Romania is about same timezone as Denmark so it will be primetime for PPV plus the huge gate incomes.

I think the Kessler thing was a rumour, I havent seen it reported that he would turn down 3.5m to fight Bute in Montreal since he probably makes around the same fighting at home but they have to pay for the arena, staff, expenses, etc.

All he would have to do to fight in Montreal is just show up and do a few pressers.
I think the PPV for the Calzaghe fight was some some 17-18M DKK which is roughly 3½M USD. And that was a night fight as well.

Maybe he's just mentally weak right now and is looking for an excuse not to fight. Something is going on with Pavlik behind close doors and I don't think it's the money (because he could still fight on Saturday and demand more money after for the bute fight).
        Agree

This story doesnt add up. Why not fight on saturday, pick up the paycheck and then proceed with the Bute negotiations?

Anyways, does anyone know what Kessler was offered to fight Bute? Where does that $3.5 million number come from? Is that accurate?
I dont know if it's accurate, but I have no problem going on record saying that such an offer would be too low.

It is clear that Pavlik doesn't have his shit together but common less than a week and cancel the fight after Showtime gave you a date on their tight schedule and after tickets have been sold... Completely and utter bs

No one should give a crap about him.... Let him drink himself to oblivion.

...and Arum has every reason to say that the alleged 3½M offer to Kessler is ludicrous. After all he is Pavliks promotor and does everything he can to ensure that Pavlik does not think he is underpaid.

              The 3½M is not unrealistic.

Pavlik was looking for a way out... you know what... it wouldn't surprise me if he is overweight and has no chance of getting down to the contracted weight.

Also, Kessler probably had lucrative tv contracts from Denmark, that is where that 3.5 million was coming from.
                  Just out of interest.....
What did you think of Bradley's decision to do EXACTLY the same thing?

how can u compare mayweather and Pavlik. When has Maywethare agreed to a fight AND THEN backed out after agreeing. I dont remembr that ever happening.

and 3 1/2 mil for Kessler IS ridiculous. when do fighters (other than fights involving Klitchkos, Pac and Mayweather) ever make 3-4 mil. not that often - especially for a fighter like Kessler or Pavlik who isn't even top 3 in their own weight class
