Pulling out of the fight at the last minute like this is bush league. Pavlik burned a lot of bridges today....with Showtime, with Top Rank, and with the fans. He seems intent on p.i.s.s.i.n.g his career away.

Old man Hopkins knocking down Joe Calzaghe has nothing to do with this story, leave that stuff out of this thread.

I feel for Youngstown that's a city that could have used a positive outing like this. Pavlik basically shat on his fans for his own best interests. I mean the mean must have already known 1. what he was getting for this fight 2. what his speculative worth against Bute would be it's not like his manager and promoter kept him in the dark they openly discussed their intent

      shameful display by him

This is what I don't get. So you pull out because you think 1.1 to low a number for you but after pulling this stunt you will NEVER make that amount of money in that fight EVER AGAIN.

What a complete schmuck. He hasn't changed at all. He agreed to this, made a decision that required a lot of people's time, money, and work and now It's suddenly not good enough for him. A recovering (maybe) alcoholic who can still have a job where they make millions of dollars and many fans should be more humble than this.

Great move there Kelly - you just took food off the plate of the rest of the fighters on this card too.

No one in Youngstown is surprised by the pavlik implosion and stoppage. pavlik is a tortured soul not well liked or respected at home. mismanged, mistrained and an alcoholic. a confused mixed up kid whose career is ruined again. get out of that dump city get a trainer who knows something give up the booze and fight. sad to see this collapse but it wasn't a shock to those who live there. a messed up soul and confused.

                      dumb SOB!!!!
Well it was supposed to be a package deal, so both fights for a total of $1.4 million. No point in going ahead with this one if he's not happy with the amount he was getting paid for Bute, that's Kelly's logic.

I know what this genius thought was going to happen. After threatening to pull out, Arum would come crying and offering more money to salvage the fight. Not quite how he anticipated it would turn out and now his career's down the ****ter.

Sometimes I'm in favor of boxers not making their own decisions, but leaving it to their (at least somewhat intelligent) managers.
