He has faced decent competition I guess, but in relation to his reputation he was even more hyped than JCC Jr. No one had JCC Jr. as a P4P guy. You can tell by looking at ability. He just wasn't that good. A top ranked fighter in his division? Okay. P4P, and equal to Gamboa? A joke.
Agreed on all of those points. I'm just saying he has more substance than Chavez Jr...but in relation to the hype, I agree with you.

I agree but he did look impressive early in his career against decent comp.

Yea, I jump the gun sometimes. The hype was driving me crazy though. This is the problem I have when people analyze resumes too much. Sometimes you can just look at a boxer as an athlete and know where they stand. 9/10 times the superior athlete wins when skill is equal. Gary Russell is a good example. People say he is untested, but if you look at his athletic talent and apparent skill level, you just KNOW that he is going to be amazing.

He was, but you could always tell that he lacked that natural athletic ability that makes a good fighter great. Skills pay the bills, but only if the athletic ability is there. He lacks in both departments.

If we look at someone like Lennox Lewis getting KTFO!!! by Rachman... and coming back from that, then JuanMa Lopez certainly can come back and reign supreme form having a fight stopped by the referee.

I think as a whole, we fans only think a fighter is as good as his last performance. A fighter like Sergio with a few good names on his resume is now being touted as p4p etc.

Time will tell what becomes of JuanMa. A loss via TKO in the 7th or 8th round does not have to be the end for any fighter. He will need to tighten up his defense here and there but he can crack and will be back.

Under normal circumstances I'd agree, but with that slow, plodding brawler style, what makes you think he will come back? Can he dramtically change his style? Do I think he can remain relevant at 126? Absolutely. Do I think he can be the best at 126? No. Not against an elite fighter, or in a division as stiff as 126 is right now. In a year or so, imagine him fighting someone like Gary Russell. I think he gets destroyed. Same goes for Gamboa.

Honestly, he is a decent fighter, but not a top fighter at all.

I'm glad he got KTFO...he was so deserving of one. His attitude and divaish/Floydish behavior had a karma KO coming.

Maybe he can learn to be a bit humble and work on his craft and maybe I'll be a fan in the future. His loss to Salido was karma for being a b*tch against Caballero. How is he having no PPV to his name and talking down to Caba? He had to come correct and Salido handed him his ass.

Till further notice, I'm hoping for a repeat of the same from Salido. He was KTFO and he's still talking and acting like he controls the negotiations

He better be! It would be an even worse embarrassment to get KTFO again, by a bum.
