The sanctioning bodies, key word "body", seems more like a chicken running around without a head! The last few years have proven that they're as flawed or even more so than the NCAA BCS system.

It's easy to bash sanctioning bodies, but seriously, what are they supposed to do if he doesn't want to defend and all these boxers are demanding to know when they'll get their turn? What about the fighters waiting for their shot ... and can't get it because Bradley has set his sights elsewhere? If fans aren't complaining about the sanctioning bodies removing a title, they are complaining because it's taking too long for their favorite fighter to get a title shot.
If Bradley just defended like he's supposed to, the problem would be solved. If he can't, then the organization has to do something or it's not fair to the guys waiting in line.
Hell, Bradley could've made a fortune this year just defending against "name" guys in the WBc's top 10, like Erik Morales, Lucas Matthysse, and Humberto Soto. The WBC basically set the table for him. But he wants a dream fight with Manny, and it just isn't going to happen.
And Bradley's last defence of his title, which was recognised by the WBC, was only in January, and was against an opponent whom every single credible independent rankings had at either #2 or #3 in the division at the time.Last edited by Dave Rado; 08-01-2011, 09:47 PM.

I think the biggest problem is the media. The vast majority of sports reporters call the alphabet title holders "the world champion", which is ridiculous, because by definition it is only possible for there to be one world champion in any division at a given time. They should refer to them as alphabet title holders or some similar phrase, and make it clear that the world champion is the lineal champion or where there is none, that the world championship is vacant. If all journalists did that, the problem would instantly become dramatically less of a problem - and fighters would suddenly start fighting for the lineal title, which they mostly don't do at present, because the fans would then be educated enough to demand it.

The sanctioning bodies CAN AND SHOULD BE IGNORED BY EVERYONE. They are what is killing boxing and turning away potential casual fans by confusing them. Boxing will always be a B sport with little to no recognition from networks and major media outlets as long as the sanctioning bodies exist. Let's put an end to this garbage and help boxing regain some integrity

This thread is about what is wrong with boxing, so not surprised at all that you showed up.
I cant wait for the Mayweather fight, so that you can suddenly forget about boxing, and concentrate on your love of politics

The sanctioning bodies do muddle the sport with their politics and blatant favoritism, but until an alternative is available to replace the marketing and financial benefits lost by removing the sanctioning bodies, the fighters will continue to seek the belts
The bottom line is, the bottom line. Belts = $$$
The answer, a remuneration system, piles of money, and new global contracts.
It will take a selfless act, by a very rich man (men), who has no concern for potential future income streams, ans is ONLY concerned about the sport itself.
