he's taking a ****** fight with darren barker in october, then afterwards is trying to get a shot at chavez jr, geale, or the cotto/margs winner. at middleweight, there isn't any big names. so i assume if he doesn't try to unify some belts at MW, then he'll go after some bigger names at 154.

      heres the deal nut case.
floydie boy hasnt fought at 154 in almost half a decade.
and it was basically a one fight deal at that weight
as for pac, pac couldnt even make the catchweight of 151 for a jr middlweight fight....matter of fact, pac cant even get pass the 147 even on fight nite

the thing with pac and the jr middleweight belt...it was done for the belt, the record 8 weight division title...the fight couldve been made at welterweight but without the 8th title...it was all business and logistics

and for the guy that said pac cherry picks and hasnt fought anyone since fighting cotto...are u a clueless? clottey and margarito are better fighters than u give them credit for...as for the mosley fight, i didnt like that fight even 2 or 3 yrs ago...being that cotto beat mosley and pac demolished cotto. i dont even give a sh/t about the people that say "well, mosley whoop margarito who whoop cotto"...WELL, PAC WHOOPED ALL THREEE (COTTO, MARGARITO,MOSLEY)
Dude, are you clueless? Everyone that is being honest with themselves knows that those fights were ****ing BS. Margarito, Mosley, and Clottey were all coming off horrible performances and looked like crap--Margarito is the only one that even had a win! C'mon man, get real.

      • Don't blame him... He is outsized by all of his Middleweight wins and the guys at Supermiddle are way bigger still... Martinez versus Bute, Ward, Froch etc? Those guys are far, far bigger...

        • Would you be happy to move up to the Super-Middleweight division to chase big fights with the likes of Andre Ward, Carl Froch or Lucian Bute if you are unable to get big fights at Light-Middleweight or Middleweight?

I started at 147, in 2003 climbed to 154 and due to the demands of my career I had to climb to 160. I consider myself a strong 154 or small 160. The 168 will only come if there is a profitable business or an agreed weight where both boxers have to make a sacrifice. I'm open to any fight with the best, but not where only I have to sacrifice. I'll give you an example. I'd fight with Bernard Hopkins tomorrow at a weight of 165 and agreed fighting weight of 172.

Do you still have ambitions to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquaio? Which of these fights would you prefer?

Pacquiao I never had any intention of fighting. It's too small for me. The only weight to fight at is 154 and I do not give up more weight than that. For me, at 154, I have no problems.
Mayweather is another thing. I want that fight. It is undisputed number 1 pound for pound and I want to win. I can beat him, but also, I'm dangerous for him and that fight will happen but not short term. I wish I could fight him with the middleweight world title at stake, but at a weight of 156-158 pounds.

            • I can swear that people were worried about Sergio making weight his last fight. Wasn't he like 175+ a month out of the fight? Maybe I'm wrong but that doesn't make him a blown up welter if I'm right.

Anyways, if he is a blown up WW, then he should be able to make the 147 limit, therefore he can fight Pac and Floyd and 147 if he is really is interested in fighting them!!!

I call bull**** on this thoough, MArtinez came in at 170 pounds vs Dzinziruk, so i doubt he can even make 154 safely!!!!

                      This is just sad!!!
Move up? Move up where? What are you talking about? Move up to MW?

Sergio a career JMW and Champion is calling out two former JMW champions. The difference is, Mayweather fought a better JMW than Sergio. Pac well he fought a lol......

Besides Sergio's old right? Ward, Kessler, Froch, Bute would be picking on an old little JMW? We cant have that now can we? We cant have fighters picking on little guys who NEVER fought at SMW right? At least Mayweather and Pac have fought and won a title at JMW. Martinez isn't calling out nobodies, he's calling out former JMW Champions. There is a difference and unless Pac wants to call himself a 7 division champion than Sergio has EVERY right to call him out in HIS division.

I guess we can only complane about fighters picking on "smaller" fighters if its Floyd Mayweather, and even that's contradicting as Pac is the same size as JMM. Floyd will be bashed when he cherry picks Pac, a "smaller" fighter that started out at 108 pounds. He wont even get credit for the win. History repeats itself and no matter who it is (even if it Martinez) he wont get credit.

Mayweather haters are like nagging wives, damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I'm all for Martinez "moving up" once again, but its VERY easy to understand why he's calling out to former JMW's, aka HIS weight division. Not Cotto's, not Margarito's, not Pac's and not Mayweather's.
