Funny stuff. Edison's a piece of work. He can hype a fight. Only problem with his approach is, if you lose, you look like a real tool afterwards.

The translation in the article gets it wrong. What Miranda said was: "When I arrived in Las Vegas last night, I looked up at the stars and they were all aligned. And I could see myself up there, aligned with them." Then he turns to Despaigne and says, "But I didn't see you.... What happened, my friend?"

(Where Edison gets the idea that he's a star, or anything remotely close to it, is a mystery to me.)

Yes the translation ******. It is much funnier in Spanish.
Miranda is a star from where he came from. He has only lost to the best. Too bad he hasn't been able to make it big. He sure can sell himself.

I don't doubt Miranda is, or was, a star in his own country. But professional boxing is a worldwide sport. It's true, he's only lost to good fighters, but he built his early career fighting inferior opposition in Colombia and the Dominican Republic. As you say, Edison never quite made it on the world stage.

At 30 years old, Miranda's career seems to be already winding down. Edison has lost to all of the better fighters he's faced, and he hasn't exactly been dominant against the decent fighters he's beaten. This next contest against Despaigne is crucial to Miranda's career. A loss must really make Edison reevaluate his choice of profession.

If he drops this next fight against Edison, his career will be on life-support before it even gets started.

This should be a good fight. Miranda's career is losing steam; he needs a win just as much as Despaigne. And I have a feeling the words at the press-conference will affect the way Despaigne approaches the fight. He seems very proud and emotional. This one is likely to get nasty.

despaigne's team picked a good opponent in Edison. The guy had heart stopping power and strength at 160 and very good at 168 but 175 is a weight I think takes away his biggest advantages. Edison truly has been thru the grinder though. Pavlik absolutely brutalized him, Abraham punched his ticket and Bute shattered his hopes of a comeback. Both guys like to brawl so this should be exciting but I see Despaigne taking Edison out early

I tend to agree about the weight. I didn't mention it myself because I haven't seen Miranda at light-heavy. Your assessment of Edison's career up to this point is probably more accurate than mine. I was being nice.

If you see Despaigne taking Miranda out early, you truly have a low opinion of Edison at 175. Yordanis is not as powerful as he looks. He likes to box. If the Cuban wins by KO, I'd guess it'll be late. Nonetheless, I do agree that Despaigne should be the favorite in this match-up.

wasn't that funny actually. all the people laughing at anything that came out of mirandas mouth just had a canned laughter effect where people watching the video end up thinking it was funny.
