Mayweather vs Mitchell headed to Pechanga!

October 09, 2005 - Reliable sources close to the situation have informed ********* that undefeated pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr will face former junior welterweight champion Sharmba Mitchell at the Pechanga Resort And Casino in Temecula, California on November 19. The Mayweather-Mitchell fight will take place at 147 pounds. An official presser to announce this HBO World Championship Boxing card will take place in California later this week. Promoter Dan Goossen was unavilable for immediate comment. **********.com will continue to keep you updated, so stay tuned.(12:46 PM EST)

    ------------------------------------------------

I'm sorry but who actually gives a flying f**k about this fight???

Mayweather is 28yrs old... He's smack **** in the middle of his prime, he should be fighting the best and securing his legacy!

He's already wasted 3-4yrs fighting guys like Victorino Sosa, Phillipe "the pudding" N'dou, Demarcus "slop slop" Corley, Henry "who?" Brusseles, and poor old Arturo "shot to pieces" Gatti.

Shamba Mitchell is 38yrs old and has been showing signs of decline ever since he got a gift decsion in Atlantic City when he fought Lovemore Ndou.

I love watching Mayweather fight, but I don't think it's very good when he's just beating up old guys or guys that's only claim to fame is that they sparred with Miguel Cotto.

FLOYD!... STEP UP!... FOR F**K SAKE!!!

This is great news. HBO has no "World Championship Boxing" or "Boxing After Dark" cards scheduled until December 10th, so I'll take a card anytime I can get it, especially a card that features the best fighter in the world.

As for the actual fight, it probably won't be that competitive, but it is a decent tune up at 147 for Floyd. Hopefully this fight will set up a fight with Zab Judah next March or April.

One more thing, since Floyd is moving up to 147, do you think he will be stripped of his 140 lb title?

Yeah... If he doesn't defend it before certain dates, he'll get stripped.

This fight isn't at all what I am looking for. I would much rather see an out of prime Casamayor who is still good against Mayweather. Casamayor is much better competition then Sharmba. This is a JOKE matchup. Sharmba is still a decent fighter, but whatever happened to Floyd saying all he wants is "big fights".

The only way this fight is good in my eyes if its setting up for a Mayweather - Judah fight at 147. Other then that if hes planning on moving up to welterweight, he's totally ducking Hatton.

I don't mean to be rude but ducking hatton? You must be kidding me. He isn't ducking Hatton and he will probably fight Hatton. Hatton does not want to fight Mayweather at the moment, his camp said so themselves. Next year we will (i really hope) see that fight. At the moment who do you want mayweather to fight, sure he could have some slightly better fights, but short of zab or hatton nothing is really going to be competative. Theres Maussa whos fighting Hatton i beleive, which hes out of picture would get out classed anyhow, Cotto would be like AA baseball vs MLB against floydd atm cotto needs a bit more work. Sharmba isn't a bad fighter by any means hes just not capable of putting up a fight against mayweather I don't think. He's older and very few older guys put in the effort to WANT to really win against the young guys. Mayweather TKO 7 over Sharmba in a one sided fight : /

Disappointed with Mayweather. He needs better opposition.

Just because Floyd talks **** and supposedly speaks the "truth" doesn't mean he's always right. I mean the guys a chronic liar. He has the talent, but he's not begging to fight Hatton anytime soon. Hatton clearly told Floyd that he wanted one more tuneup fight, then there would be a superfight with Floyd. Whats wrong with that?

Only reason I can think of that Floyd is moving up to 147 is to eventually fight Zab Judah. If this were to happen, yes he would be ducking Hatton, and all the credible 140 lbers.

Hatton's not ducking Mayweather... He just wants a "rest fight" inbetween, and why not... He had to go through hell to get that belt off Tszyu:

In my eye's Mayweather has not beaten a top 10 140lber yet... Gatti was vastly over-rated and showing bad signs of being a shot fighter.

Mayweather is in the hottest division in boxing at the moment, and he's opting to move up out of it without fighting anyone? There's something a bit "iffy" about that.

Hatton said that he wants Mayweather for a mega fight next summer, Arum said that he wants Cotto to fight Mayweather (when interviewed after the Torres fight).

These people do want to fight Mayweather, and it's only Mayweather that says that no one wants to fight him.

Also, Mayweather said he'd fight Hatton in Manchester for £20 million. That's just an unrealistic offer.
