I think Khan beats Bradley, and does so convincingly. Stylistically, Khan is all wrong Bradley. Having said this, you can't rank Khan ahead of Bradley based on victories over Judah and McCloskey. Both are not top 5 JWW's. Bradley's victory over Alexander this year > Khan's victories over Judah & McCloskey. And his entire JWW resume is better overall than Khan's at this point in time.

You can't be the man, without beating the man.

Are we forgetting Khan's wins over Maidana and Kotelnyk?

bradley last fought alexander on jan. 29. 2011. khan fought maidana on dec. 11. 2010. amir has gone on to post two more victories over mccloskey and judah since then while bradley has yet to fight again.

if inactivity affects a fighter's ranking (as it should), so should it affect bradley when in comparison with khan. khan has been active, fighting while bradley continues to sit. hell, even devon alexander has gone on to fight since his loss to bradley. no way bradley should be ranked higher than khan.

Amir should be ranked above Bradley.

Since Amir moved up to 140 he has beaten Kotelnik, Salita, Malignaggi, Maidana, McCloskey and Judah. These are two top 5 ranked and three top 10 ranked fighters, Amir has beaten in two years time. While in the same period of time, Bradley has had only two fights at 140 against Peterson and Alexander.

Bradley's lack of acitivity in the 140 weight class is what cost him the no.1 spot.

            Amir is #1.

huh? Khan wanted Bradley not Judah, Judah was the next best fight that could of been made. Was Maidana past it? was Kotelnik?

Who are these prime 140lb fighters he should be facing then? Do enlighten me........

                  Ratings Critique

                  Hey Cliff,

Great ratings once again - as per usual I have my nits with them. They are as follows:

                  Cruiserweight

I actually had Tarver in my ratings for a couple of months but I can see why you didn't (since he hadn't fought there yet). However, I'm puzzled as to why Green now disappears from the top ten. Green lost to an excellent fighter in Tarver. Green also has relatively recent wins over BJ Flores and Roy Jones. Compare that to Fragomeni or Guillermo Jones. You're penalizing Green too much here.

                  Super Middle

I still think Quillin is too high. He's active and all but since his best wins are over Jesse Brinkley and Dionisio Miranda (who he was life and death with a few years ago) - that just doesn't get you into the top ten. Pryor Jr.'s win over Andrade is better than both of those wins and couple that with Pryor's win over Dyah Davis and I'd at least rate him higher than Kid Choc.

                  Middleweight

I know Golovkin has a lot of hype and a great amateur background but check his opponent list. It's weak. He might deserve a top 5 rating eventually, but let's not get carried away with a win over a faded Ouma. I'd still put Macklin, Sylvester and Pirog ahead of him.

Oh yeah - why do you have P-Will still rated at 160? In his last three fights, he beat (!?) Lara at 154, lost to Sergio at a catchweight of 157 and beat Cintron at 154. Sounds like a Junior Middleweight to me.

                  Junior Middleweight

I just moved Angulo out of the ratings for inactivity - though he is allegedly scheduled to fight an eliminator against Vanes. When it's signed I'll believe it.

                  Welterweight

Aydin just won a tuneup on 7/15 so correct his record. Also, I still have the standing objection re: Sanchenko and Ouali in the top ten. I definitely think Mike Jones, Brad Solomon and Randall Bailey have beaten better opposition. Also, if you have Kotelnik ahead of Alexander and Caballero ahead of Barros (presumably because you thought the wrong guy had their hand raised in those fights) then you should definitely have at least Bailey ahead of Ouali. Bailey got jobbed with that DQ when they met. I can't any other reason you'd have Ouali in the top ten other that "win" over Bailey.

                  Featherweight

Gamboa was stripped of the WBA title - Barros has that now. Check the WBA website.

                  Strawweight

Garcia is no longer the interim WBO champ - he is the champ outright as Nieto moved up in weight to Junior Fly - check the WBO website.

Just so you don't think I'm just a wanker who likes to pick on your ratings. Here is a link to mine:

                  MY RATINGS AS OF – July 26, 2011 HEAVYWEIGHTS 1 Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s, Lineal/Ring, 3 Defenses; IBF, 10 Defenses; WBO, 6 Defenses; WBA Super, 0 Defenses) 2 Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s, WBC, 6 Defenses) 3 David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) 4 Alexander Povetkin (21-0, 15 KO’s) 5 Tomasz ...

Apparently (see here) only one member of The Ring's rating panel (out of 38 boxing experts in total) voted for Bradley to retain his #1 spot. Cliff is a member of the ratings panel, so it seems that he must have been the sole dissenting voice who voted for Bradley.

I can respect Cliff's point of view though: he agrees that Bradley should be considered to be in serious danger of losing his spot soon and that Bradley's claim yesterday that he has no desire to face Khan does him absolutely no favours in that respect - but he's giving him the benefit of the doubt for a bit longer.

I hope the fact he's lost his Ring #1 spot forces Arum to tell him that he can't have a fight against Pac unless he beats Khan first - although given Arum's track record, I'm not holding my breath. But it's possible, because a Pac-Bradley fight would have zero credibility while Bradley is clearly ducking Khan, which he is right now.

The lineal title is vacant. Neither of them are the man until they fight each other. And given that Bradley is clearly ducking Khan, he deserves to lose his 1# ranking, which is purely subjective, and is not a statement about who is "the man". Who is "the man" has to be determined in the ring by Bradley and Khan facing off. (I can respect Cliff's point of view in giving Bradley a bit longer to redeem himself before demoting him in the rankings, though.)
