    Ariza's Training Methods

I was watching the fight last night and his training regiment really seems hard core. They even said they have Amir getting up at 2 am to train. I was like wow wtf these guys don't play no games. I Believe what he had Amir doing is call plyometrics (I could be wrong). Explosive training to help with speed and power. Either way I think he is well on his way to becoming one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in a long time. I know alot of people don't like ariza and I don't know the guy to give an opinion one way or another but what ever it is he's doing seems to work.

Anyone have any idea's where I can find some info or vids on some of the exercises he has Khan and Pac doing?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plyometrics

It has been very popular with NFL players for several years...from what I have seen it involves quite a bit of resistance training rather than standard medicine ball type exercise.

There is no peer-reviewed science supporting that it is superior to standard exercise regimens however. Until it is supported by peer-reviewed medical journals it is essentially junk science.

Anyone find it kinda odd that Ariza isn't as ripped and shredded as you would like to think given his association with top fit boxers?

not really, just because he trains people doesnt mean HE has to be fit.

Plyometrics do work, but you need to have good strength and great conditioning before doing plyo because if you don't you could get an injury pretty easily.

However when doing plyo correctly, it helps a lot to develop explosiveness and power mainly.

Oh, and also ballistics are great for boxing, as they also help to develop power, and in fact I've seen a lot of videos of Khan doing ballistics (medicine ball)

I mean I personally look like I am in better shape than him...and I am not exactly a fitness guru.

Don't get me wrong, he is great at what he does...but I think he has his inflated aura of what he brings to the table. The fighters do all the work, and whatever kinks to physical training added to his stable of boxers is marginal in the big picture in my estimation.

No,his energy is outward towards his students and not inwards towards himself. When you train properly you need to rest to recover and build. all that takes time and energy and when you are training the likes of Manny and Khan he has to give them his full attention and energy and time.

That's all there is to it. I used to work in a fitness center and been around a slew of personal trainers, from really experienced guys(working with local nfl players) to PTs just getting their feet wet in the business. And, let me tell you, the most sought after personal trainer at that gym during my time of employment there was this pudgy 5'4 Mexican guy. When other personal trainers wanted to get into summer shape, they usually chose him.

At the end of the day, I don't think it's the plyos or the most scientific training regimen that makes the fighters who they are, it still boils down to athletic ability and willpower. I mean, look at Zab Judah, at one time he was one of the most talented fighters of his generation, but, when pressure came, he wilted almost every single time.

An even better example was De La Joto, now, we all know De La Joto could afford and did hire the best trainers $$$ could buy. But, guess what, he too wilted when under pressure in big fights.
