who has he fought though? Quillin hasn't fought anybody. the only reason people are even mentioning him now is because Freddie Roach wants to save his cash cow Chavez from being steamrolled by Martinez.

nobody, expect people watching solo boxeo, would even know who Quillin is if Roach didn't drop his name about Sergio Martinez. just because freddie roach says something doesn't make it so.

lets see how he does against real opposition, it's easy for a guy with talent to look good against bums. he was having problems against Fernando Zuniga, so I don't think he's ready. when Jesse Brinkley is the biggest name you have on your record you gotta build it up some.

Golovkin, Macklin, Rubio and other middleweights are more deserving of a shot at the champ.

I'm not writing off Quillin, he's talented but lets not hype him up like James Kirkland.

add to that I don't think I have ever seen Smith in a one sided loss and this fight becomes a good litmus test for Petey IMO

Quillin lost his TV spot because his people match him with a bum on shot notice. he should have demanded a better fighter then Jason LeHoullier. HBO didn't even want to televise that garbage.

Martinez fought Williams the 1st time on 2 weeks notice. you gotta take risks to get big. having Freddie Roach shill for you is huge but Quillin has to show people he's good and deserving.

wait what exactly has he done?

short of Ouma who gave him a tough fight and who's best days are behind him, who else is there? maybe Gardner?

but those two guys do not really make him anymore deserving now do they?

Golovkin is the WBA "regular" champ. which doesn't say much but it is something. perfect guy for Quillin, when he wins he gets a paper title which makes him a bit more worthy of a big fight.

but i think Golovkin has N'Dam in his future

since Felix Sturm turned down a Martinez fight, Golovkin would be the next in line, if he wanted to collect titles.

Where do you get your facts from? I wouldn't consider Brinkley better than Echols or top 10 in the WORLD when they fought; Miranda. Fernando Zuniga was Quillin's first tune up fight after a 1 1/2 year lay off due to injury. And how do you say he struggled with him when he won every round, minus 1, on all 3 judges' scorecards?

The only reason Martinez got to fight Williams 1, was because he came off a Draw against Kermit Cintron, already lost to Margarito and fought no one outside of Argentina. He did exactly what he was expected to do against Williams, LOSE!

Tarvis Simms pulled out with 10 days to fight night. Please tell me which quality boxer you know would take a fight with a week and a 1/2 notice? As far as Chavez Jr. is concerned, Oscar DLH already tweeted that he is a target as well.

Who has Golovkin fought? Ouma with 7 losses at the time? He hasn't even had a fight in the states yet. Macklin already has 3 losses including his last bout. Rubio has fought over 50 of the cab drivers' sons that Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. fought except for Ouma who he lost to and Pavlik that retired him in the 9th. He already has 5 losses?

If you're talking about risk, their is no bigger risk for Quillin than Martinez. But I'm sure you think that Barker deserves this shot more than Quillin because DiBella said so. Quillin doesn't decide who he destroys in the ring. And I don't think he is an HBO exec to make decisions to have his fight aired. WHAT A JOKE?

you must be Quillin's friend or a shill or something. are you sure you aren't Freddie Roach?

Golovkin is a champ, that's more than Quillin at the moment.

Williams vs Martinez was very close and you can write using CAPS say LOSS but it was so close that it help Martinez. that fight could have went either way. maybe you don't watch boxing but Martinez knocked out Cintron, and the draw was total bull****.

as for Barker it's not the fight I would have wanted but Barker has fought better people then Quillin, has more fans who will come to the US. his is European Champ and Domenico Spada is a lot better than anybody Quillin has faced.

Felix Sturm, Daniel Geale, Chavez jr all turned down fights with Martinez. I'm not saying Martinez shouldn't fight Quillin but what does Quillin bring to the table? he hasn't fought anyone, he isn't a champ, outside of you he doesn't have a following. Martinez is old and is looking for big fights and Quillin just isn't that. at least the Barker fight will be big in the UK.

let Quillin put a couple of good fights together against top guys and then face Martinez. the only reason Freddie Roach is mentioning him is to protect Chavez. and that's plain to see.

and Arum won't left Chavez near Quillin.

but lets be serious. Martinez is fighting Barker in Oct. and most likely Chavez in March 2012. that gives Quillin plently of time to fight actual opponents and build up a name for himself.
