Pacquiao more accurate puncher than Mayweather
Collapse

I see this as a RELATIVE issue.
• Mayweather's punches are to the point, meaning he punches as he wills it.
• Pacquiao's combinations are towards an effect, meaning, there are preceding punches for you to "respond" to as a lead inorder for him to set up for the bigger punches coming - set up.
If one sees Pacquiao's punches against Margs and Clottey for example, he would "tap" their gloves to get an effect, then surge through with his LEFT. Obviously not always but he does this many times.
Thus the VOLUME PUNCHING of Pacquiao as part of his strategy of attacking EN MASSE...whereas Mayweather carefully picks his punches with economy and precision.
IN the end, Accuracy is a subjective terminology mainly due to the boxers' intention and strategy involved.Comment

Please provide the link where compubox calculates connect percentage over a series of fights as an unweighted average? And if it did, you appear to be too simple-minded not to see a problem with that. You don't see that a one-punch knockout (100% connect percentage for that flight ) would unduly inflate the average, leading to a misleading connect percentage?Last edited by chike99; 05-06-2012, 04:28 PM.Comment

In his last 9 fights, Mayweather landed 46% of his total punches, while opponents landed just 16%. Canelo Alvarez, who defends his154-lb title vs. Shane Mosley in the Mayweather-Cotto co-feature, is #3 on the list with a + 14 rating. The CompuBox overall average for punches landed is 32%.Comment

Throwing combos and being more active should lower your accuracy as it did with Mayweather's last light, but Pacquiao who throws a ton of combos and can throw a thousand punches a fight or more still has the higher accuracy.I see this as a RELATIVE issue.

Pacquiao also throws with more power which should lower accuracy but not for Manny.Comment

Like I said, typical Pacta*d, giving misleading information. The link you provided does NOT calculate connect percentages the way you did. Although it does not explicitly describe how, it does say that "Mayweather connected on 46% of his TOTAL punches over his last 9 fights" (I am paraphrasing). This suggests that they calculated connect percentages as the number of punches landed divided by the number of punches thrown over 9 fights - a correct method. Notice that Pacquia is only at 38%, so you are trying to use uneducated calculations to mislead as to how he is better. Typical Pacta*d. The link you provided exposed your ignorance.Last edited by chike99; 05-06-2012, 04:50 PM.Comment
