Julio Cesar Chavez is the baddest man on the planet.

To suggest Martinez, with his collection of "victories" over cherry-picked cab drivers and 135lb goat-farmers, could hang with Chavez for more than 6 rounds is laughable. Better men than Martinez have tried and failed. Chavez would decimate and retire Martinez; a fact that Sergio is well aware of.

Chavez is the legitimate middleweight champion of the world: Martinez can't be the first, but he can be the next ; you can run Sergio, but you can't hide - 43 have tried and 43 have failed.

Best post ever right here. In the comments for an article that basically says Chavez would get crushed by Martinez and shouldn't fight him anytime soon you have the balls to make this post. Touche to you sir. You may be a complete idiot, but a funny one at least.

martinez is the daddy of the middleweight divsions.

i think most really dont wana fight him,he should deliberately look "vulnerable" vs barker just to sucker in the bigger names.

          Cotto/margairto,lara,k9,sturm,geale,pirog,alverez.

          the big names/title holders.

he needs to sucker them in with crazy good contracts/putting on a bad performance or going to their hometown and having to KO them.

How is Chavez Jr ever going to get good if he is not fighting guys to make him better? Also, why give Chavez Jr a shot at the title and the title of the recognized champ at 160 if they don't want him to fight the real recognize best Sergio Martinez? I feel that if Arum and HBO ducks the fight that Diabella should get Chavez Jr stripped of the title because the WBC already said that Chavez Jr had to fight Martinez next year in a mandatory defense. I don't understand why the sport of boxing are always trying to crap on Sergio Martinez? Boxing is ridiculous in these days and times. All these promoters and networks are worried about is how much they can make off of these fighters marketing wise to the point that they forgot what made boxing a likable sport to the masses. **** is a shame.

At first I though how terrible a mismatch this would be then I thought about it some more and something tells me it might be a more competitive fight than people think. The bloodline is strong in young Chavez and there may very well be greatness inside of him, just waiting to be honed, and given the chance to shine. My thought now is that he will impress many people in a competitive, albeit losing effort to Maravilla. Think Arguello-Mancini, kinda. IMO, it will be the type of a fight that will show people (and prove even to Julio Jr himself) that Chavez Jr is more like his father than not, and he will gain respect in defeat and go on to do great things in the future.

That could be be possible. At the very least I would have more respect for him just stepping in the ring with Martinez than I have for all of his wins combined. If he comes in weighing 180 fight night he could be able to stand there and take the shots.

This is the problem, Jr is a ticket seller and in no way he was ready even to be champion. They promote Martinez to some bogus belt and once the soft hitting Zbik was ready we had a championship fight.

If he is not ready to face the best he shouldn't be the champion. Being the champion means being the best in the division but this era of multiple belts it has taken a different meaning.

Can't wait to see who is next after Manfredo. I bet between Suliman and Arum they will make up a funky rule or justify another non deserving fighter with a title shot so they can continue to milk Jr

Ha ha ha ha! This is funny. You didn't say big enough to take on Martinez but big enough to take the beating. Chavez would get slaughtered against Martinez but atleast let the kid make his bones and stop spoon feeding him. He's never going to be ready if he keeps fighting the guys he is fighting now. On top of that. He has a title and still getting passes to duck top fighters? Boxing is sucking big time with this attitude.
