only division i could argue has a richer history than heavy would probably be middle. i dont see how heavy is overrated tho. it produced some great, great fighters and even the lower weight fighters strove to be recognized there.Comment

The 80's murk the 70's. the WW and HW divisions were poppin. MW division had the great WW move into it, and the LW division had a lot of sparkle too it too.
Edit: You said HW, and you have a good argument. I personally like the 50's thoughLast edited by Eastbay Giant; 07-21-2011, 02:26 AM.Comment

Really? Can't think of another besides MW?
Welterweight:
Sugar Ray Robinson
Ray Leonard
Henry Armstrong
Joe Walcott
Tommy Hearns
Emile Griffith
Pernell Whitaker
Trinidad
Duran
Kid Gavilan
Carmen Bassilio
etc.
You look at any all time great list pound 4 pound and there are usually only a handful of heavyweights in the top 20. Ali. Joe Louis. Couple others maybe, depending on the list.
With exception of a handful of heavyweights, the truly gifted and greatest fighters are almost always from the lower weight classes.
People complain about the "Klitschko era" and how it sucks well there have been other stretches at HW that were pretty boring to. I'm sure when Joe Louis was fighting the "bum of the month" it wasn't terribly exciting. No competition.Last edited by ИATAS; 07-21-2011, 10:34 AM.Comment
