I think Roy needs to go heavyweight, he has a better chance with the slower opponents.

Clinton is too good for Roy at the moment and the fight would probably just be yet another chance for RJJ to damage his reputation.

            Roy should hang them up.

He's not the fighter he once was, he has his money and his health, and he doesn't need to struggle to compete with guys he would have torn apart years ago.

i think he needs to retire as well. stop while he's ahead. as this forum has displayed- many still consider him to be one of the greatest despite the 2nd (decisive) tarver loss. however, this may not be the case if he takes another fight- and by whatever circumstance scores himself another L. and then another. and another. every boxer wants to leave on a win/good note. but this is a physiological irony, because the more an aging boxer tries to win after their old-man losing streak begins, the worse their legacy becomes.
i think roy is standing on the edge of a long downward slide- should he continue to fight. i love roy, but i think he should go ahead and retire and just savor the life he's made for himself.

While I agree with your assesment that a Roy should retire, I disagree with your take that a poor stretch after a fighter is clearly shot ruins a legacy.

Take a look at these records:

                http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=009625

                http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=000080

                http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=000499

                http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=009012

Great fighters tend to be unable to let it go.

No one's going to say Michael Jordan's stint with the Wizzards ruined his legacy.

                  jones

if jones fights the way he did against tarver he can beat anyone if he just throws more punches. other than that he was on point.

he was accurate, fast as hell still, good defense.

just needed to throw more, now maybe he cant and that will be the problem.

then again maybe being off a year hurt him in the stamina department to where he couldnt be as active with his punching.

if he would have thrown 100 more punches than he threw he could have beat tarver by decision or ko/tko imo.

                  i think these 2 will meet again in a about a year 1/2 - 2 years.

                  jones will beat him then

but first he needs to pick up some belts and definitely go and beat glen johnson.

It Wont Matter Who He Beats Becusd He Has Lost To Tarver Twice And Maybe Even Three Times. I Dont Think Rj Will Be Seen As A Real Champ, And He Shouldnt Be, If He Cant Beat The 'real Champ'
